Champions Trophy 2025 SF 1: Great Performance By Indian Team
The Indian
Cricket Team defeated the Australian team in the first semi-finals of the
Champions Trophy 2025 played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on 4th
March.
Australian
captain Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first. Cooper Connolly
opened the innings along with Travis Head. Mohammad Shami dropped a tough chance
of the very first delivery of the match. Hardik Pandya and Shami kept pressure
on the Australian opening batters. Shami struck a big blow dismissing Connolly
with a lovely catch by KL Rahul.
Travis Head
showed intent against Shami and Hardik Pandya putting them under pressure.
Kuldeep Yadav bought early into the attack, but Head looked in great touch
keeping the scoreboard ticking along with Steve Smith. Ravindra Jadeja missed a
great chance to run out Head. Varun Chakvarthy got the massive wicket of Travis
Head providing a simple catch to Shubman Gill at long-off. Head and Smith added
50 runs for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the first 10 overs,
Australia scored 63 for 2.
After the
field restrictions, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith steadied the ship
against disciplined Indian bowling. Both batters kept the scoreboard ticking
and hit boundaries with ease. Smith and Labuschagne survived a few anxious
moments.
Ravindra
Jadeja got the massive wicket of Labuschagne hitting in front of the stumps. Labuschagne
and Smith put on 56 runs for the 3rd wicket. Josh Inglis looked in
good touch taking singles with ease. On the other hand, Smith kept the scoreboard
ticking, reaching fifty off 68 deliveries. Jadeja struck again to get rid of
Inglis with a simple catch to Kohli at covers. Inglis and Smith added 34 runs
for the 4th wicket.
Alex Carey
looked in good touch with the spinners with attacking shots while Smith showed his
intent not allowing bowlers to settle. Shami delivered the goods with a lovely
delivery shattering the stumps. Smith and Carey added 54 runs for the 5th
wicket. Axar struck a massive wicket dismissing Glenn Maxwell to leave
Australia in trouble.
Ben Dwarhsuis
struggled against the Indian spinners able to hit shots. Varun Chakvarthy
struck in his final over dismissing Dwarhsuis with a simple catch by Shreyas
Iyer at deep midwicket. Carey looked in good touch reaching half-century off 48
balls. A superb direct hit by Shreyas Iyer ended the innings for Alex Carey in an
attempt for the second run. Shami and Hardik Pandya finished off the innings as
India bundled out Australia for 264 in 49.3 overs.
Virat Kohli’s
Brilliant Batting
Chasing
down 265 runs to win, Rohit Sharma showed intent right from the word go putting
Aussies bowlers under pressure. Sharma was dropped twice by Connolly and Labuschagne.
Ben Dwarhsuis
struck the opening blow getting rid of Gill taking an inside edge onto the
stumps. Rohit and Gill put on 30 runs for the opening wicket.
Cooper
Connolly got the big wicket of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli looked
impressive along with Shreyas Iyer taking singles and keeping the strike
rotating. At the end of the first 10 overs, India scored 55 for 2.
After the
field restrictions, Kohli and Shreyas maintained the pressure on their bowling
by taking singles and hitting boundaries. Kohli showed his class reaching fifty
off 53 deliveries. Adam Zampa got the big scalp dismissing Shreyas. Shreyas and
Kohli added 91 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Axar Patel
played a vital role along with Virat Kohli taking singles and hitting
boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking. Nathan Ellis finished the innings
for Axar, giving some hope. Axar and Kohli put on 44 runs for the 4th
wicket.
With the required
run rate under control, Kohli and KL Rahul steadied the ship by taking singles
and hitting boundaries. Zampa got a much-needed breakthrough dismissing Kohli
with a simple catch to Dwarhsuis at long-on. Kohli and KL Rahul added 47 runs
for the 5th wicket.
Hardik
Pandya struggled initially before launching three big sixes against Zampa and
Tanveer Sangha. Hardik tried to finish off the match but provided a simple
catch to Maxwell at long-on. Hardik and KL added 34 runs for the 6th
wicket. KL Rahul finished off the match with a six as India won the match by 4
wickets with 11 balls to spare.
For his 84
off 98 deliveries, Kohli was named the player of the match award. India qualified
for the finals that will take on 9th March 2025 in Dubai.
