It was an ideal start for the Indian team as PV Sindhu looked in great control defeating Kathegong in two straight games. It was not an ideal start for the Indian team as PV Sindhu suffered a straight-game loss to Aya Ohori. The first game did not go well for the Indian as she lost it by 13-21. PV Sindhu showed great fighting spirit in the second game despite trailing most of the time. She equaled the scores at 20-20 before Ohori held onto her nerves to win by 22-20 giving Japan a 1-0 lead in the tie. The women’s doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Tressa Jolly fought strongly to beat Nami Matsuyama and Shida in three games.
