  The visiting New Zealand team ended rain-curtailed 2 nd day against Sri Lanka in a good position played at Galle International Stadium, Galle on 19 th September 2024. Starting on the overnight score of 302 for 7, Sri Lanka got off to worst possible start with Prabath Jayasuriya gone in front of the stumps before rain stopped play. After the rain delay, the hosts lost two more wickets to be bundled out for 305 in the first innings. Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored 5 runs before the rain stopped play again. Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss and decided to bat first. Pathum Nissanka looked in good touch with positive strokes against the disciplined New Zealand bowling of Southee and Rourke. Dhananjaya de Silva will be high on confidence as they stunned in the 3 rd test match against England at Kennington Oval, London last week. The visitors suffered 5 wicket loss in the first test match at Old Trafford, Manchester. Dimuth Karaunate and Madushka would open the innings for the visitors. Madushka had a horrible outing being dismissed cheaply. Pathum Nissanka has been named as a replacement for Kusal Mendis.
