Thomas Cup 2022 Day 1: Indian team blank Germany
The Indian men’s team started the Thomas Cup tournament with a dominating win over lower-ranked Germany in the opening match played at Impact Arena Court 2, Bangkok on Sunday. Lakshya Sen making his Thomas Cup debut put enough pressure on Max Weisskicheren before Max showed courage and made life tough for Sen. At the mid-game interval, Max led 11-9. After the break, Lakshya did not allow his opponent to settle with brilliant shots taking 5 successive points and maintaining the lead till the end. The Indian won the first game easily at 21-16. Lakshya looked sharper in the second game after the initial lead by German. Sen dominated the play and took a commanding 11-5 lead at the interval. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Sen was superb with his shots winning the second game easily at 21-13 to give India a 1-0 lead.
