The Indian Women’s team went down agonizingly of winning the Women’s World Cup 2017, but under pressure could not hold their nerves against the hosts at iconic Lords Cricket Ground on 23 rd July. England captain Heather Knight won the toss and decided to bat first. Tammy Beaumont and Laura Winfield started off to a positive note with attacking stroke play. Both England batters played with intent looking in decent touch. Rajeshwari Gayakwad provided the breakthrough for Indian eves as she dismissed Winfield around the legs. The England openers added 47 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur produced one of the best innings for ages during the 2 nd Semi-finals match against the mighty Aussies side played at County Ground, Derby on 20 th July 2017. In a rain-curtailed match reduced to 42 overs, Indian captain Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to bat first. Smriti Mandhana fell cheaply in the first over by Megan Schutt. Punam Raut struggled with her timing and was dismissed for 14. Harmanpreet Kaur came to the crease and just took little time to settle. The experienced duo of Raj and Kaur struggled for timing. Kaur was given a reprieve as Healy missed a stumping chance. Both batters added 76 runs for the 3 rd wicket. The Indian Women’s Cricket Team registered an emphatic win over White Ferns in a must-win match at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 played at County Ground, Derby on 15 th July. New Zealand captain Suzie Bates won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the White Ferns as they dismissed Indian openers Punam Raut and Smriti Mandhana cheaply. Indian captain Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. The experienced duo played according to the situation and kept on ticking the scoreboard despite tight bowling by White Ferns bowling. Raj was superb with her stroke play to reach her 50 th half-century off 71 balls. On the other hand, Kaur looked solid and struggled for a while.
