Hero Asia Cup 2022: India beat Japan to clinch bronze
The young Indian team showed great fight and spirit to defeat Japan in a closely fought match played at GBK Stadium, Jakarta on Wednesday. India started putting enough pressure on the Japanese defense. After a series of free hits for India, Japan showed urgency but was well defended by the Indian team. Brilliant attack by Manider Singh, Uttam Singh and pass to Raj Kumar Pal tapping into a goal in 6 th minute giving India 1-0 lead. They earned two back-to-back penalty corners but did not yield anything. The Indian team looked in decent touch after the heartbreak against South Korea. Right before the first quarter ended, Takuma Niva was awarded a green card. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. Japan began the second quarter on an aggressive note with still 10 men inside. Their attack prevailed as they earned their two successive penalty corners.
