ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: Indian women’s team register second win.

 The Indian Women’s Cricket Team registered a comfortable 6-wicket win in the second Group match played at Newlands, Cape Town on 15 February 2023. West Indies captain Hayley Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start as Mathews went cheaply with a simple catch to Richa Ghosh off Pooja Vastkar. Campbell and experienced Taylor put the bad deliveries away for boundaries as Indian fielding looked ordinary. At the end of the first six overs, the West Indies women made 27 losing just 1 wicket. Campbell and Taylor kept showing intent in hitting boundaries. Deepti Sharma got two wickets in the same over dismissing both Campbell with lovely catch by Mandhana and then Taylor with a review for LBW.  The Australian Cricket Team continued registered a dominating win over West Indies in the first semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on Wednesday. With the match reduced to 45 overs a side, West Indies Stefanie Taylor won the toss and decided to field first. It was a steady start by Australian openers Alyssa Healy and Haynes keeping the pressure back on the West Indies' bowling line-up. At the end of the first powerplay reduced to 9 overs, Australia scored 37 for 0. The Australian openers put enough pressure on the West Indies bowlers with attacking strokes and did not allow them to settle. Anisa Mohammed went off field injuring herself while fielding. Healy and Haynes put them under immense pressure. Haynes completed fifty off 66 balls while Healy reached half-century off 63 balls.  Due to rains, the match between South Africa and West Indies was abandoned in a rain-curtailed match played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on Thursday. The match was reduced to 26 overs a side due to heavy rains. West Indies captain Stefanie Taylor won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Chinelle Henry dismissed Laura Wolvaardt with a good catch by Dottin. Connell dismissed Laura Wolvaardt to leave the South African team in trouble. Chinelle Henry dismissed Tazmin Brits and South African captain Luus to leave them in tatters at 22 for 4. The West Indies catching was not great as they dropped 4 catches.  The Pakistan women’s team ended their 18-match losing streak as they defeated West Indies in a rain-curtailed match played at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Monday. After a long delay due to heavy rains, Pakistani captain Bismah Maharoof won the toss and decided to field first. The powerplay overs were reduced to 4 overs each. Amin Ameen kept the pressure on the West Indies opening batters of Hayley Mathews and Deandra Dottin. At the end of the first 4 overs, West Indies women scored just 19 runs. Fatima Sana got the breakthrough in her opening over getting rid of Mathews caught by Muneeba Ali. Dottin showed some intent against the Pakistan bowlers.  The West Indies bowlers showed great fight and character as they defeated Bangladesh in a low-scoring thriller played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Friday. Bangladeshi captain Nigar Sultana won the toss and decided to field first. West Indies openers Deandra Dottin and Hayley Mathews started off brightly. Jahanara Alam provided the breakthrough for Bangladesh dismissing Dottin with a lovely catch by Shamima Sultana. Mathews and Rashada Williams helped West Indies end the first 10 overs at 34 for 1.  The Australian Women’s Cricket Team continued their winning streak as they defeated West Indies in a one-sided affair played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on Tuesday. West Indies captain Stefanie Taylor won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision did not pay off as Ellyse Perry dismissed Hayley Mathews with a beauty and then Kyica Knight off successive deliveries. Yastika Bhatia looked in sublime touch taking on the West Indies bowlers especially hitting 3 boundaries off Selman. She kept scoring runs making life tough for the opposition. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to field first. The explosive Deandra Dottin opened the innings along with Hayley Mathews. It was another dominating display by the Indian women’s team as they crushed West Indies by 61 runs to whitewash the T20I series in the fifth and final T20I match played at Providence Stadium, Guyana on 21 st November. Indian stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision did not pay off as both Shafali Verma and Mandhana went in successive deliveries adding 17 runs for the opening wicket. Jemimah Rodrigues and Veda Krishna Murthy steadied the Indian innings with attacking stroke play putting pressure on West Indies bowlers.
