BBL 2024-25: Sydney Thunder Stun Sydney Sixers To Reach The Finals

  Sydney Thunder stunned favorites Sydney Sixers in the challenger of the 2024-25 Big Bash League played at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG on 24 th January 2025. Thunder captain David Warner won the bat flip and decided to field first. Jack Edwards and Kurtis Patterson struggle to score runs easily.   Hobart Hurricanes produced a superb effort to stun Sydney Sixers in the first qualifier played at Ninja Cricket Stadium, Belivere Stadium, Hobart on 21 st January 2025. Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the bat flip and decided to field first. Mitchell Owen showed right from the word go putting pressure on Sydney Sixers opening bowlers.  Perth Scorchers continued their domination as they registered an emphatic win over Sydney Sixers in the finals of BBL 11 played at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne on Friday. Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss and decided to field first. The decision paid off for Sixers as Jackson Bird got the early breakthrough dismissing Kurtis Pattinson. Perth scored 14 runs at the end of the first four overs. Veteran spinners Steve O Keefe grabbed dangerous Josh Inglis stumped while Nathan Lyon took wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Colin Munro to leave Perth in tatters at 25 for 4. Perth Ashton Turner and Laurie Evans steadied the ship for Perth with sensible hitting making life tough for the opposition. Both experienced batters put Perth on course as they kept on the pressure.   A superb all-round effort helped Sydney Sixers defeat Perth Scorchers comfortably in the finals of the BBL 10 played at full capacity Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG on Saturday. Scorchers captain Ashton Turner won the toss and decided to field first. It was a good start by Sixers openers as Josh Philippe and James Vince provided a solid start putting pressure on the opposition bowlers. A superb combination by Tye and Hardie resulted in the run-out of Josh Philippe. At the end of the first four overs, Sixers made 31 for 1. After the field restrictions, Daniel Hughes and James Vince steadied the innings for Sixers. Vince looked in great touch hitting boundaries at will. A superb catch by Colin Munro got the important breakthrough for Scorchers taking the wicket of Hughes.   Thanks to a dominating performance, Sydney Sixers registered their biggest win in BBL history as they defeated Melbourne Renegades played at Blundstone Arena, Hobart on Sunday. Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for Renegades as Hatzoglou got rid of Jack Edwards cheaply. At the end of the powerplay overs reduced to 4 overs, Sixers made 27 for 1. James Vince played with intent and put Renegades bowlers under some pressure while Joshua Phillippe took some to settle. After settling in, Philippe took the attack to Renegades bowlers and completed his fifty off 36 balls. Daniel Hughes gave good support to Philippe making life tough for the opposition. Sydney Sixers started the BBL 9 season on a resounding note defeating Perth Scorchers by 8 wickets in the 2 nd match played at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG on Wednesday. Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for Sixers side as Dwarshuis got an early breakthrough dismissing Liam Livingstone in the first over. It was a good bowling display by Sixers bowlers as they kept a tight leash on the Perth batsmen. At the end of first six overs, Perth Scorchers were struggling at 31 for 4. After the power play overs, Perth captain Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green steadied the innings for Perth taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries.
