French Open 2022: Satwik and Chirag enter finals

 The Indian duo of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Wo Ho of South Korea in the semi-finals of the Super 750 French Open played in Paris on Saturday. It was an aggressive start for the Indian pair with a 2-0 lead before the Korean equaled the scores at 7-7. Satwik and Chirag put enough pressure on Choi and Kim with an 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, the Indian pairing looked impressive not allowing their opponents to settle. Satwik and Chirag Shetty struggled as they were hitting out or net, but the Korean pair managed to reduce the lead to just 1 point to 18-19. Indonesia Open 2022: HS Prannoy enters semi-finals

 HS Prannoy continued his impressive run with a comfortable win over Rasmus Gemke of Denmark in the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open 2022 played in Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday. The Indian dominated Gemke right from the word go not allowing him to settle with his strokes. Prannoy kept the momentum and took a commanding lead at the mid-game break. After the break, the Indian maintained his attacking play winning the first game easily at 21-14. Prannoy kept the pressure going on in the 2 nd game with attacking shots and taking a commanding lead again. Mia started off on a bright note taking 2 early points before Sindhu stormed back into the game with 4 successive points.  The young Indian pairing of Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty defeated S Vendy and B Lane of Great Britain in the last Group A match played at Mushino Sports Plaza, Tokyo on Tuesday. Both teams started off on an even keel taking alternate points. The Indian pair did service fault in the initial stages before putting pressure on England pair. Chirag and Satwik hit some lovely smashes which Vendy and Lane had no answers to. At the mid-game interval, the English pair had slender 11-10 lead.  The Indian badminton contingent had a mixed day as the young the pairing of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty stunned the 3 rd ranked pair while Sai Praneeth lost to Misha Zilberman of Israel on the opening day played at Musashino Forest Sports Plaza, Tokyo on Saturday. In the Group A match, the young Indian pair stunned the World number 3 Lee Ying and Wang Chin-inn of Chinese Taipei in three grueling games. It was an aggressive start by the Indian pair who dominated the initial stages taking a commanding 7-2 lead. Despite the Chinese Taipei efforts, Chirag and Satwik had an 11-7 lead at the interval. Tokyo Olympics 2020: Groups announced for Indian shuttlers

  The excitement is almost over as three Indian shuttlers including PV Sindhu, Sai Praneeth, and the men’s doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty will feature in prestigious tournament starting from 24 th July played at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza. PV Sindhu who won the silver medal during the 2016 Rio Olympics has been placed with Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi and Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova in Group J. The Indian would fancy her chances to top the group making it into the round of 16 matches. The top player in each group will qualify for the knockout stages. The men’s singles star Sai Praneeth will take on Mark Calijouw of Netherlands and Misha Zilberman of Israel in the league stage. Sai would be looking to play attacking badminton and top the pool making it into the next round.   The Indian challenge ended as PV Sindhu crashed out in the semi-finals losing to Pornpawee Chocuwong of Thailand at All England Badminton Championship 2021 played at Birmingham, England on Saturday. It was a good start by Sindhu who hit well attacking smashes and put the Thai player under pressure taking an early 3-1 lead. Chochuwong made aggressive moves and kept Indian check playing smashes. At the mid-game interval, the Thai player had an 11-6 lead. After the break, Chochuwong maintained the lead and kept Sindhu under pressure with commanding a 14-7 lead.   PV Sindhu was the only Indian shuttler to make it into the finals while Kidambi Srikanth and men’s doubles pair of RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty lost at the Super 300 Swiss Open played at Basel, Switzerland on Saturday.   PV Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Mia Blichedft of Denmark in two straight sets. In the first game, both players took alternate points and maintained this till 8-8. Sindhu played with aggression and had an 11-8 lead at the interval. After the break, the Indian dominated the Danish player taking 17-12 lead. Blichedft took 5 points in succession as Sindhu committed few mistakes and leveled the scores at 17-17. Sai Praneeth had a great start to the tournament as he defeated J-Ho-Shue of Canada in two straight sets by 21-17, 21-16. It was a dominating performance by the Indian star who looked shaky at the start but played with aggressive intent and won the match easily to move into the 2 nd round. It was an amazing performance by the Indian pair who defeated number 3 rd ranked Chinese pair of Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in grueling three sets by 21-19, 18-21, 21-18 to win their first major title at an international level. The Indian pair was against a formidable Chinese opponent who won the World Champion. It was a positive start for the Indians as they equaled the score 3-3 and then took a 10-6 lead. Indian teams’ groups for Thomas and Uber Cup announced

In good news for all badminton fans, the Indian teams’ groups for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup have been announced by the Badminton World Federation. The Thomas and Uber Cup was postponed twice due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It was supposed to be held from 16 th -24 th May but rescheduled from 15 th -23 rd August. The Badminton World Federation postponed it in October due to the situation prevailing in the world. After the All England Badminton Championship played in March, no tournament has been possible due to the global health crisis. Indian men’s team has been clubbed in Group C with defending Champions Denmark, Germany, and Algeria. In the 2018 edition, Indian men did not qualify for the knockout stage. Group A comprises of 13-time champions Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, and England. China, Chinese Taipei, Australia, and France consists of Group B. PV Sindhu- the Golden Girl of Indian badminton

PV Sindhu has become the golden girl of Indian badminton after Saina Nehwal. She turns 25 today and achieved a lot of medals in her international career so far. Sindhu won a gold medal in the Asian Junior Championships played at Gimcheon in 2012 in the singles category.   Apart from that, she won a bronze medal in the singles and mixed team event during the 2011 edition played in Lucknow. She made her international debut in 2009. To date, Sindhu has a total career record of 326 wins and 139 losses. Apart from that, she has won so far 15 titles. Her performance has been exceptional in World Championships. In the 2013 and 2014 editions, Sindhu won a bronze medal. She bettered her performance in the 2017 edition winning the silver medal losing to Nozomi Okuhara in the 2 nd longest matches in women’s singles. The great of world badminton has announced its retirement on 3 rd July. He began his junior-level career by winning the Badminton Asia Junior Championship held at Kyoto in 2000 at Boys singles. In 1999, he won a bronze medal in doubles category in Yangon. With the Chinese boys’ team, Lin Dan was a part of the team which won the Asia Badminton Team Championship in 2000. He won the bronze medal in the men’s singles of boy’s singles of World Junior Championships in 2000 played in Guangzhou. Apart from the bronze medal, he was a part of the team which won the mixed team event of World Junior Championships in 2000 played in Guangzhou. Lin Dan's professional career began in the year 2001. He reached the finals of the tournament and lost to his Chinese compatriot Xia Xuanze. His first international title came at the 2002 Korea Open.
