BBL 9: Tom Curran all-round effort helps Sydney Sixers clinch the match in Super Over

Tom Curran all-round efforts helped Sydney Sixers defeat Sydney Thunder in a thrilling Super Over match played at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG on Saturday. Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson won the toss and decided to bat first. Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales played with positive intent with aggressive stroke play which made life tough for Sydney Sixers bowlers. Sean Abbott got the breakthrough dismissing Usman Khawaja for 16. Khawaja and Hales added 48 for opening wicket. At the end of six overs, Sydney Thunder were 50 for 1. After the power play over, Tom Curran dismissed the other opener Alex Hales for a quickfire 32 off 21 balls. After losing 2 quick wickets, Alex Ross and Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson steadied the innings taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. . Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson won the toss and decided to field first. The decision paid off as Sams took wickets of Phil Salt and Matthew Short in the 2 overs. Jake Weatherald and captain Alex Carey steadied the innings for Adelaide Strikers. At the end of first six overs, Adelaide Strikers were 41 for 2. After the power play overs, Carey and Weatherald played with confidence. As things looked dangerous, Cook struck by dismissing Weatherald for 42. Carey and Weatherlad added 60 runs for the 3 rd wicket. Wells came to the crease and looked positive with approach taking on Sydney Thunder bowling. Wells and Carey added 54 runs for the 4 th wicket. Sydney Sixers started the BBL 9 season on a resounding note defeating Perth Scorchers by 8 wickets in the 2 nd match played at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG on Wednesday. Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for Sixers side as Dwarshuis got an early breakthrough dismissing Liam Livingstone in the first over. It was a good bowling display by Sixers bowlers as they kept a tight leash on the Perth batsmen. At the end of first six overs, Perth Scorchers were struggling at 31 for 4. After the power play overs, Perth captain Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green steadied the innings for Perth taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries. As things were looking good for Perth, Green tried to hit a big shot and was dismissed by Manenti for 36. Green and Marsh added 58 runs for the 5 th wicket. Thanks to Callum Ferguson captains knock, Sydney Thunder started the BBL season 9 on a resounding note by beating hosts Brisbane Heats by 29 runs played at Gabba, Brisbane on Tuesday. Sydney Thunder captain Ferguson won the flip and decided to bat first. Usman Khawaja looked in great touch with aggressive stroke play in the first 2 overs. Lalor got the breakthrough for Brisbane dismissing the dangerous Khawaja for 22 off 13 balls. Alex Hales and Matthew Gikes went in quick succession to leave Sydney Thunder in trouble at 38 for 3. At the end of first six overs, Sydney were 44 for 3. Ferguson and Alex Ross steadied the innings for Thunder taking singles and hitting occasional boundaries.
