It was not an ideal start for the Indian team as Akashdeep Singh was awarded a green card. India dominated the opposition keeping momentum with great attacking skills but Pakistan's defense was solid. Harmanpreet Singh scored from a penalty corner in the 9 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. India kept the attacking going putting enough pressure on Pakistan's defense. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. The second quarter saw both teams making attacking moves but the defense remained solid enough.
