 The Indian men’s badminton created history as they registered an emphatic victory over 14-time Champions Indonesia in the finals of the prestigious Thomas Cup finals played at Impact Court Arena 1 on Sunday. Lakshya Sen came back from one game down to register a superb win over Anthony Gingting in three games. Gingting looked sharp right from the word go in game 1 as the Indian committed lots of unforced errors. At the mid-game interval, the Indonesian led 11-7.  The Indian men’s team stunned Denmark in a thrilling 2 nd Semi-finals of the Thomas Cup 2022 played at the Impact Court Arena 1, Bangkok on Thursday. Lakshya Sen looked out of color as he lost the first singles match easily to Victor Axelsen in straight games. It was a dominating performance by the tall lanky player from Denmark as he put enough pressure on Lakshya not allowing him to settle. At the mid-game interval, Victor took won the first game easily by 21-13, 21-13 giving Denmark a 1-0 lead. Lakshya Sen gave a tough fight losing to Lee Zi Jia in two straight games. It was a good start by the Malaysian putting pressure on the Indian with smashes. The Indian showed great fight and spirit with brilliant shots to put Lee under pressure to level the scores at 10-10. At the mid-game interval, the Malaysian took a slender 11-10 lead. Kidambi Srikanth gave the Indian team an impressive start defeating Brian Young in three games. The Indian started off brightly before both players took alternate points till 8-8. Lakshya Sen making his Thomas Cup debut put enough pressure on Max Weisskicheren before Max showed courage and made life tough for Sen. At the mid-game interval, Max led 11-9.  The Indian shuttlers will take part in the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup 2022 from 8 th May onwards in Bangkok. This time, many top players like Kidambi Srikanth, Sai Praneeth, and HS Prannoy would feature in this tournament. They will be looking to improve on the performances that they displayed in the 2021 edition. The Indian team reached the quarterfinals before losing to Denmark by 1-3. With the likes of Srikanth, Praneeth, and good doubles pair, they would be hoping to win their maiden medal in the prestigious event.  Thomas Cup is a tournament meant for men.
