ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 Match 5: New Zealand open their account with ease
After a narrow loss to West Indies in the opening match, New Zealand women cruised to an easy win over debutant Bangladesh played at University Oval, Dunedin on Monday. The match was curtailed to 27 overs a side due to heavy rains. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to field first. The Bangladesh openers Shamima Sultana and Fargana Hoque put pressure on the White Ferns bowlers, especially on Lea Tahuhu. Sultana showed intent in hitting boundaries with ease. With powerplay reduced to 5 overs, Bangladesh openers scored 41 without losing any wickets. After the field restrictions, Sultana and Hoque struggled to rotate the strike. MacKay got the breakthrough dismissing Sultana taking top edge providing a simple catch to Tahuhu. Sultana and Hoque added 59 runs laying a strong foundation.
