Melbourne Stars captain Meg Lanning won the bat flip and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for Stars as Ismail produced a beauty to dismiss Elysse Villani. The pitch had some seam movement as Thunder bowlers exploited the conditions brilliantly. Meg Lanning played some lovely shots while du Preez also struggled against Thunder bowlers.
