This Day That Year: West Indies cricket teams create history
It was a historic day for West Indies cricket as their men’s and women’s team won the World T20 title played at different venues on 3 rd April 2016. West Indies women stunned Australia in the finals played at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Australian captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for the defending Champions as they lost an early wicket of Alyssa Healy. The experienced duo of Villani and captain Meg Lanning steadied the Australian innings by scoring runs easily putting pressure on West Indies bowlers. Deandra Dottin provided the much-needed breakthrough for West Indies dismissing Villani for 52. Villani and Lanning added 77 runs for the 2 nd wicket. Ellyse Perry also contributed valuable runs while Lanning made 52 also. West Indies bowlers made a good comeback in death overs picking wickets and not allowing Australia to score runs freely.
