Hong Kong Open 2019: Kidambi Srikanth defeat Chen Long to move into the semi-finals

The lone Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth moved into the semi-finals of Super 500 Hong Kong Open played in Hong Kong, China on Friday. It was a great news for Indian badminton fans as Kidambi Srikanth played with confidence in the first game. Srikanth showed his dominance and caught Chen Long napping right from word go. At the interval, the India led 11-4. After the interval, Srikanth continued to dominate the Chinese and won the first set easily 21-13. Before the start of the 2 nd game, Chen Long had retire hurt to an injury. Srikanth moved into the semi-finals where he will face of Lee Chik Yu of Hong Kong. It has been a good performance by the Indian who has played with confidence against the Chinese and made sure that he never allowed Chen to comeback into the match. It was his 2 nd victory over Chen Long. His last win over the Chinese was in the 2017 Australian Open where he defeated Chen by 22-20, 21-16. It was a disappointing day for Indian shuttler’s as Kidambi Srikanth made into the quarterfinals of Super 500 Hong Kong Open played on Thursday. In the men’s singles, HS Prannoy lost to Jonathan Christie in two straight sets by 12-21, 19-21. In the first game, Prannoy could not give a fight to the Indonesian and lost by a massive gap. It was a close fought match in the 2 nd game, but the Indian committed lot of errors and lost the match. Parupali Kashyap went down fighting to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in three sets by 21-12, 21-23, 10-21 to be knocked out in the 2 nd round. Kashyap played brilliant badminton and won the first set easily. It was a very close fight in the 2 nd game as both players took alternate points but this time, Chou won the 2 nd set by 23-21 to force match into decider.
