 Namibia created a huge upset as they defeated Asian Champions Sri Lanka in the opening match of the T20 World Cup played at Kardinia Park, Geelong on 16 th October 2022. This was their first win over a top test-playing nation. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the Lankan Lions as they two early wickets getting rid of Lingen and La Cock. Kusal Mendis took a sensational one-handed catch to dismiss Lofite Eaton leaving Namibia in trouble. Captain Gerhard Erasmus and Baard steadied the ship for Namibia with 41 runs partnership. Lankan bowlers made a strong comeback to leave them in big trouble at 93 for 6. Jan Frylinck and JJ Smit changed the momentum of the innings with a brilliant counterattacking partnership.
