Pakistan creates record at Galle

 The Pakistan Cricket Team chased down the highest ever fourth innings total at Galle during the first Test match against hosts Sri Lanka that concluded before the tea break on 20 th July 2022. Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karauante won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for the hosts as the captain fell cheaply to Shaheen Shah Afridi. Oshada Fernando and Kusal Mendis steadied the ship for the Lankan team before Yasir Shah got rid of Mendis with a lovely catch by Rizwan. Fernando and Mendis added 49 runs for the 2 nd wicket. Pakistani bowlers kept tight lines and lengths reducing Lanka to 80 for 4 at lunch. After the lunch break, the visitors made life tough for the hosts with strikes at regular intervals.   After the first day washout, both teams fought it out on a rain-curtailed 2 nd day as Indian openers started steadily before Kiwi’s bowlers made a comeback played at Ageas Bowl, Southampton on Saturday. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to field first with conditions helping the pacers. Rohit Sharma started off brightly with 3 runs off Tim Southee’s bowling. The Indian openers played according to the merit of the ball and played some lovely shots. Gill and Rohit Sharma survived testing conditions against Southee and Boult. The Kiwis captain decided to bring Kyle Jamieson after 5 overs spell by the opening bowlers. The Indian openers hit the bad balls away for boundaries keeping the scoreboard ticking.   Despite Pakistan good bowling, it was a good batting display by Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor leading Kiwis charge on the first day of the first Test match played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Saturday. Pakistan's newly-appointed captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the visitors as Shaheen Shah Afridi got an early breakthrough getting rid of Tom Latham with a simple catch to Azhar Ali at third slips. Tom Blundell struggled against top-quality Pakistani bowling. Shaheen Shah struck for the second time dismissing Blundell to leave the hosts in trouble at 13 for 2. The Pakistani bowlers troubled the experienced duo of Williamson and Taylor. It could have been ideal bowling for the visitors as Shan Masood dropped a tough chance to get rid of Williamson.
