  Gujarat Giants defeated UP Warriorz to register their first win of the tournament in a one-sided contest played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 17 th February 2025. GG captain Ash Gardner won the toss and decided to field first. It was a disciplined bowling effort by GG bowlers as they restricted UPW Warriorz to a modest total of 143 for 9. Uma Chetry and Deepti Sharma were the standout partnership putting on 51 runs for the 3 rd wicket before they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In reply, Gujarat Giants struggled initially before Laura Woolvardt and captain Ash Gardner steadied the ship.   After a disappointing loss in the opening match, Gujarat Giants bounced back in style with a comfortable victory over UP Warriorz played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 16 th February 2025. Gujarat Giants captain Ash Gardner won the toss and decided to field first. Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh got UPW off to a flying start putting pressure on the GG bowlers. Deandra Dottin produced the breakthrough for Gujarat Giants dismissing Kiran Navgire with a lovely delivery. GG captain Ash Gardner dismissed the other opener Vrinda Dinesh shattering the stumps. At the end of the first six overs, UP Warriorz scored 41 for 2. Uma Chetry and Deepti Sharma steadied the ship keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and taking singles.   The 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League is going to start with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Gujarat Giants in the opening match to be played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 14 th February 2025. The matches will be played at Vadodara, Lucknow, Bengaluru & Mumbai. It promises to be an exciting tournament. Few of the teams will be missing key players because of injuries or personal reasons.
