Neil Wagner 5 wicket haul helps New Zealand beat England by an innings and 65 runs

Thanks to Neil Wagner 5 wicket haul, New Zealand defeated England by an innings and 65 runs on the fifth and final day of the first Test match played at Mount Maunganui on Monday. Starting on the overnight score of 55 for 3, it was not an ideal start for England as their captain Joe Root went cheaply for 11 runs by Colin de Grandhomme. Ben Stokes and Joe Denly played were solid with their defensive technique. Neil Wagner, Tim Southee, Mitchell Santer kept the runs dry not allowing them to score runs with ease. At the lunch break, England were 98 for 4. Ben Stokes and Joe Denly started the second session on a cautious note. Tim Southee got the breakthrough for New Zealand dismissing Stokes for 28. Stokes and Denly added 52 runs for the 5 th wicket. Wagner was brilliant with his speed and dismissed Joe Denly with a good catch by BJ Watling.
