India Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Shetty Loses In Semi-Finals

  The Indian challenge ended as the men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty lost to the Malaysian pair in the semi-finals of the Super 750 Indian Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on 18 th January 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty began the first game on a positive note keeping pressure on Goh/Izzuddin with smashes and drop shots. Soon after, the Malaysian pair showed great fighting spirit to take points in succession. At the mid-game interval, Goh/Izzuddin took a slender 11-10 lead. It was an even contest after the break as both pairs took alternate points. The Malaysian pair showed their class to win the first game with a scoreline of 21-18.   The Indian contingent witnessed Satwik/Chirag Shetty progress into the semi-finals while Sindhu and Kiran George crashed out of the Super 750 Indian Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on 17 th January 2025. PV Sindhu suffered a heartbreaking loss to Tungjung of Indonesia in three thrilling games. It was a dominating performance by the Indonesian keeping the pressure on Sindhu and never allowing any chances. At the mid-game break, Tungjung had a commanding 11-4 lead. After the break, it was one-way traffic with the Indonesian winning the first game with a comfortable scoreline of 21-9. It was a disastrous start for the Sindhu in the second committing unforced errors. Trailing 4-9, Sindhu made a strong comeback to take an 11-10 lead at the break.   The Indian shuttlers had a decent outing with three of them making into the quarterfinals of the Super 750 Indian Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on 16 th January 2025. The women’s doubles pairing of Rituparna Panda/Shweta Panda suffered a straight-game loss to Baek HN and Lee S-h. It was a dominating performance by the Korean pair as they looked in complete control, winning the match by 21-6, 21-7. Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponnappa struggled losing to Fukushima/Matsumoto in two straight games. The first game was a one-sided affair as the Japanese won with a scoreline of 21-9. Indian pairing of Crasto/Ponnappa gave a tough for the Japanese in the second game, but Fukushima/Matsumoto held onto their nerves to win it by 23-21.   The Indian contingent had a disappointing outing for hosts shuttlers of the Super 750 India Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Delhi on 15 th January 2025. In the men’s singles section, HS Prannoy lost to LY Su of Chinese Taipei in three thrilling games. The first game saw the Indian dominating the play keeping the pressure on the Chinese Taipei player to win it by 21-16.   LY Su showed great fighting spirit with some lovely shots keeping pressure on Prannoy before winning the second game 21-18. Ly Su looked in complete control right from the word go in the 3 rd game keeping consistent pressure on Prannoy winning with a scoreline of 21-12 to knock him out of the tournament.   It was a decent start for the Indian shuttlers as 5 of them made it into the second round of the Super 750 India Open played at KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on 14 th January 2025. PV Sindhu started her India Open campaign with a comfortable win over Sung S-y of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. The first game saw Sindhu dominate her opponent keeping her under immense pressure, winning by 21-14. Both players fought for each point in the second game before the Indian held onto her nerves to win the match by 22-20. She will face M Suizu of Japan. The prequalifies Kiran George registered a thrilling three-game win over Tanaka of Japan. It was a closely fought contest right from the word go as both players fought for each point. Satwik/Chirag Shetty was the bright spot in the Super 1000 Malaysia Open as they reached the semi-finals. HS Prannoy and the women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, Malvika Bansod suffered losses in the second round.
