This Day That Year: Bangladesh recorded their first ODI win
It was a historic day for Bangladesh cricket as they registered their first ODI win in the Coca Cola Tri-series played at Hyderabad on 17 th May 1998. Kenyan captain Aasif Karim won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a disciplined bowling effort by the Bangladeshi bowlers to restrict a strong Kenyan batting line-up comprising of Otieno, Steve Tikolo, Maurice Odumbe, Hitesh Modi, Thomas Odoyo. Ravi Shah was the top scorer for Kenya with 52 while Hitesh Modi made 42. For Bangladesh, Mohammad Rafique picked 3 wickets giving away 56 runs. Bangladesh bowled out Kenya for 236 in 49 overs. Chasing 237 runs to win, Mohammad Rafique came to open the innings along with Athar Ali Khan. Bangladeshi openers set a strong foundation putting on 137 runs in 26 overs.
