Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2025: India Crash Out Of The Tournament

  The Indian Badminton team crashed out of the tournament with a 0-3 loss in the quarterfinals against Japan played at Qingdao, China on 14 th February 2025. It was not an ideal start for the Indian team as the mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/ Tanisha Crasto against Hiroka Midorikawa/Natsu Saito in three games. The Japanese pair kept pressure on Dhruv and Tanisha with attacking shots. After a great start, they maintained winning the first game easily at 21-13. The second was a closely fought affair with both pairs fighting for each point. After the initial struggle, Kapila and Tanisha looked impressive keeping consistent pressure winning the second game at 21-17. Asian Champions Trophy 2024: India Registers Their Second Successive Win

  The Indian Men’s Hockey team continued their winning run as they defeated Japan in their second match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played at Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia, China on 9 th September. Indian Team began off to a superb start as Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek scored two field goals in the 2 nd minute itself. They kept the pressure on the Japanese defense with attacking moves. Japan got the first real chance with a penalty corner, but the shot was wasted. They got another PC, but the shot was saved by Krishna Pathak. At the end of the first quarter, the scores remained 2-0 for India. Harmanpreet Singh was off the field as Sanjay converted the penalty corner in the 17 th minute to give India a commanding 3-0 lead.  The Indian women’s hockey team registered a closely fought win over Japan in FIH Nations Cup tournament played in Valencia, Spain on 12 th December. Salima Tete scored a field goal in the 5 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. Japan showed their aggression with some lovely attacking moves but Savita Punia produced lovely saves. It was a close affair as both teams got chances. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. The second quarter saw the Indian team putting pressure on Japan's defense. They earned a penalty corner, but the shot was cleared by Japan. At the end of the first half, India still led 1-0.  The Indian women’s hockey team produced a disciplined performance as they defeated Japan easily to finish 9 th in the prestigious tournament played at Teressa on Wednesday. Both teams struggled initially to create chances but could not convert them into a goal. Vandana Kataria missed a golden chance as she tried to flick the shot it was well saved by the Japanese goalkeeper. Japan also got a chance, but the shot went wide of the goal. At the end of the first quarter, the scores remained at 0-0. The second quarter began well for Team India as they entered Japan’s circle twice in the first two minutes.  The young Indian team showed great fight and spirit to defeat Japan in a closely fought match played at GBK Stadium, Jakarta on Wednesday. India started putting enough pressure on the Japanese defense. After a series of free hits for India, Japan showed urgency but was well defended by the Indian team. Brilliant attack by Manider Singh, Uttam Singh and pass to Raj Kumar Pal tapping into a goal in 6 th minute giving India 1-0 lead. They earned two back-to-back penalty corners but did not yield anything.  The Indian young hockey team started their Super 4’s journey with a closely fought game against Japan played at GBK Stadium, Jakarta on Saturday. Japan began the first quarter aggressively, putting enough pressure on the Indian defense. They earned their 1 st penalty corner, but the drag-flick was powerfully and deemed high. Both teams showed aggression and made life tough for their opposition. A superb 3D skill by Manjeet from the right angle in the 8 th minute gave India a 1-0 lead. India was awarded a penalty corner soon after scoring a goal but did not yield anything. Japan put enough pressure, but the Indian defense remained solid enough.  The Indian men’s hockey team could not replicate their form as they lost to Japan in the 2 nd Semi-finals of the Asian Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy 2021 played at Maulana Bhasani Stadium, Dhaka on Tuesday. It was a perfect start for the Japanese team as they earned 2 back-to-back penalty corners. The 2 nd penalty corner was awarded a penalty stroke as Yamada converted into a goal in the first minute to give Japan a 1-0 lead.  The Indian hockey team continued their impressive run as they ended the league stage with a resounding win over Japan of Men’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2021 played at Maulana Bhasani Stadium, Dhaka on Sunday. It was a superb start by the bronze medallists of the Tokyo Olympics as they kept piling pressure on the Japanese defense. India was awarded two penalty corners but did not convert into a goal. Soon after, Japan too got a penalty corner through a fast counterattack. Harmanpreet Singh converted a forceful penalty corner into a goal in the 10 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. By winning the BWF World Championship title in August this year, PV Sindhu will represent in the BWF World Tour finals to be played from 11 th December at Guangzhou, China. After winning the prestigious title, the Indian has been in poor form losing at Denmark Open, China Open, Japan and Korea Open. She reached the quarterfinals of French Open 2019.     Sindhu finished 15 th in the BWF World Tour finals rankings. She is defending Champions of BWF World Tour finals winning it last year. With the Indian winning the World Champion, she will get direct entry into the tournament. It is going to be a massive challenge to maintain the intensity for Sindhu. She will be looking to show much better consistency in the upcoming tournament against the best Badminton players. India beat Japan in a closely game to win Olympic Test event.

After the Indian men's team cruised to an easy victory over New Zealand by 5-0, it was the turn for the Indian women's team as won a closely fought match against Japan by 2-1 in the summit clash at Olympic Test event at Tokoyo on Wednesday.  In the 1 st quarter, the Indian team dominated the first 10 minutes. Navneet Kaur gave India the lead with a fine finish in front of the goal. Japan levelled the score in the next minute with a brilliant field goal by Shimizu. At the end of the 1 st quarter, the scores were level at 1-1. The second quarter the Indian team having few chances in the first few minutes with the likes of Vandana Kataria and Navjot but could not produce goals. Japan also tried to score a goal as Shimizu created a chance as Indian team defence remained solid. The scores at half time were 1-1.
