This Day That Year: Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy once more
It was a historic moment as Mumbai defeated Saurashtra in the finals of the prestigious Ranji Trophy played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 28 th January 2012. Starting on the overnight score of 287 for 6, Mumbai made 68 runs and were bowled out for 355 to take a massive lead of 207 runs. It was a superb bowling effort by Mumbai bowlers as Ajit Agarkar and Dhawal Kulkarni produced magical spells. Right from the word go, Agarkar and Kulkarni put the Saurashtra batsmen under pressure. Dharmendra Singh Jadeja was the top scorer for Saurashtra. Kulkarni grabbed 5 for 32 in 14.4 overs while Agarkar took 4 for 15 in 9 overs. Mumbai bowled out Saurashtra for 82. It was a remarkable performance by Mumbai who won the title for the record 40 th time since the inception of the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai captain Agarkar won the toss and decided to field first.
