Asia Champions Trophy 2024: India Enters Finals With Commanding Win
The
defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2nd
semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in
Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16th September.
Indian team
began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved
by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean. After the initial domination, a superb pass by
Arijit with a goal by Uttam Singh in the 13th minute to give India a
1-0 lead. Soon after, Korea’s two penalty corners before the third penalty
corner as the shot hits Sumit’s body. At
the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0.
The second
quarter began off superbly for the Indian team as they put pressure on the
Korean defense. Harmanpreet Singh converted the second penalty corner in the 19th
minute to double the lead. Both teams tried to put pressure on each other’s
defense, but did not yield any results. At the end of the first half, India led
2-0. India dominated the first half with 61% as compared to 39 by South Korea. India
had 15 circle penetrations while South Korea had 10. Both teams earned two
penalty corners each.
It was an
ideal start for the Indian team in the third quarter with Jarmanpreet Singh
scoring a brilliant field goal in the 32nd minute to make it 3-0. South
Korea put some pressure on the Indian defense keeping the pressure as Oh
Seyeyoung scored from a penalty corner in the 33rd minute to reduce margin
at 1-3. South Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean was awarded a yellow card for coming
outside the circle. Harmanpreet Singh scored in the 45th minute to increase
the lead to 4-1.
South
Korean team was down to 10 men in the five minutes of the fourth quarter. Kim came
back as a goalkeeper after suspension. Suraj Kakera produced some lovely saves
of penalty corners that denied South Korea of any chances coming back into the
game. Amit Rohidas was sent off the field for 2 minutes due to a green card.
It was a great performance as India registered a dominating 4-1 win and reached the finals. In the first semi-finals, China stunned Pakistan after a 1-1 draw. They scored 2 goals while Pakistan failed to score anyone. India will face China in the finals of the tournament tomorrow.
