Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 Quarterfinals 3: Maharashtra stuns Punjab

  Maharashtra stunned the hot favorites in the 3 rd quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy match played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 11 th January. Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. Arshdeep Singh provided perfect for Punjab dismissing Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over and then getting rid of Siddesh Veer to leave them in trouble. The Under 19-star Arshin Kulkarni steadied the ship along with experienced Ankit Bawne. Both kept the scoreboard ticking with singles and hitting boundaries. Arshin looked impressive along with Ankit. Kulkarni reached his half-century off 81 deliveries to steady the ship for Maharashtra. Both made the batting look easy with Bawne also completing his half-century of 71 deliveries. Naman Dhir eventually got the breakthrough dismissing Bawne.   A superb all-round performance helped Baroda beat Punjab easily in the 2 nd semi-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 played at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday. Punjab captain Mandeep Singh won the toss and decided to field first. Ninad Rathva and Kedar Devdhar started off briskly putting pressure on the Punjab bowlers. Rathva looked good before Siddarth Kaul produced a beauty to dismiss Rathva for a run ball 15. Baroda openers put on 28 runs for the opening wicket. At the end of the first six overs, Baroda made 44 for 1. After the field restrictions, Mayank Markande and Harpreet Brar were bought into the attack by Mandeep Singh.   Punjab’s great form continued as they crushed defending Champions Karnataka in the first quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 played at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Punjab captain Mandeep Singh won the toss and decided to field first. Karnataka captain Karun Nair and Devdutt Paddikal began off steadily with some good strokes from Paddikal. Sandeep Sharma provided the breakthrough for Punjab as Karun Nair played a poor stroke giving a simple catch to Gurkeerat Singh Mann at mid-off. Coming into the bowling attack, Kaul struck twice in his first over. A rash stroke by Devdutt Paddikal and then a superb catch by Markanade at short midwicket put Karnataka on the backfoot. Quarterfinals line-up for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 decided

  It was an amazing league stage as 8 teams made it into the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament. From Group A, Punjab and Karnataka made into the last 8 stage. Punjab finished top of the points winning all their matches. The first two quarterfinals will be played on 26 th January while 3 rd and 4 th quarterfinals would be played on 27 th January at the newly laid Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad. Punjab defeated Uttar Pradesh by 11 runs in their opening match on 10 th January at KSCA Cricket Stadium 2, Bangalore, they outplayed Karnataka by 9 wickets, crushed Railways by 117 runs, outplayed Jammu and Kashmir by 10 wickets, and ended the league stage with a comfortable 22 runs win. On the other hand, Karnataka made it into the last 8 stage finishing 2 nd in the points winning 4 matches. Their only loss came against Punjab.
