CWG 2022 Day 4 Table Tennis: India men’s team reach finals

 The defending Champions India produced a gritty performance as they defeated Nigeria in the 2 nd semi-finals of the Men’s table tennis event played at National Exhibition Centre on Monday. Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan gave India a perfect start as they defeated Abiodun and Omotayo in the men’s doubles. The Indian pairing looked in decent shape after a cautious start before winning the first game at 11-6. The second game saw the Indian pair dominating right from the word go putting pressure on the Nigerian pair. Despite Nigerian effort, Desai and Sathiyan took 2 nd game at 11-7. It was a closely fought third game before the Indian pair showed their class to win it by 11-7.  It was an amazing game of hockey as India and England play out a thrilling draw played at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre on Monday. The Indian team began the first quarter on an aggressive note as Lalit Kumar Upadhyay scored a field goal in the 2 nd minute to give a 1-0 lead. Manpreet and Co put pressure on the England defense. Akashdeep Singh was awarded a green card as India was down to 10 men. PR Sreejesh produced a sensational save to deny England a goal. Mandeep Sing produced a superb reverse flick goal in the 13 th minute giving India a 2-0 lead to end the 1 st quarter at 2-0. It was not an ideal start for India as Varun Kumar was sent off the field for 5 minutes. Commonwealth Games 2022 Women’s Cricket: Grace Harris and Ash Gardner snatch victories

 It was an amazing effort by both teams but Australian women held their nerves in the opening match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket competition against India played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. It was an aggressive start as Smriti Mandhana put pressure on Australian bowling with positive strokes while Shafali Verma looked cautious. Mandhana fell chasing a wide delivery caught by Healy to give a breakthrough for the Australian team. Ash Gardner bowled steady lines and lengths not allowing Indian batters to score runs easily especially Yastika Bhatia and Verma. At the end of the first six overs, Indian women made 35 for 1. Indian men’s hockey team announced for Commonwealth Games 2022

 The Indian men’s hockey team for the prestigious 2022 Commonwealth Games has been announced to be played from 29 th July till 8 th August. Manpreet Singh has been handed the charge for prestigious event. Hockey India thought about sending a second-string side for CWG due to the short gap between CWG and Asian Games. However, with the Asian Games postponed to next year due to the COVID situation in China, HI decided to send a strong unit for the prestigious event. In the 2018 edition, India finished fourth losing to England by 0-6 in the bronze medal match. This time around they have been clubbed in Group B with England, Canada, Wales, and Ghana. They will begin their tournament on 31 st July against Ghana. Under the captaincy of Manpreet Singh, the Indian team won a historic bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics after a gap of 41 years.
