IND W vs NZ W 1st ODI: Indian Team Starts With A Resounding Win

  The Indian Women’s team started the ODI series with a resounding win against White Ferns played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 24 th October 2024. Indian stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for the hosts as Mandhana was dismissed providing an easy catch to Plimmer at backward point. Shafali Varma showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on the White Ferns bowling. Shafali Varma looked in sublime touch keeping the scoreboard ticking along with Yastika Bhatia. Varma’s excellent innings ended with a simple catch to Halliday at square leg. Varma and Bhatia added 37 runs for the 2 nd wicket.  The favorite Australian team provided too strong for the hosts White Ferns in a one-sided affair played at Basin Reserve, Wellington on Sunday. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to field first. The Australian openers Racheal Haynes put pressure on White Ferns opening the bowling with attacking strokes. McKay eventually got Healy as Australian openers added 37 runs for the opening wicket. At the end of the first 10 overs, Australian women scored 37 for 1. White Ferns grabbed the wickets of Australian captain Meg Lanning and then dangerous Haynes to leave favorites in trouble at 56 for 3.   The Australian women’s team proved too strong as they defeated New Zealand in the 2 nd T20I played at Allan Border Field, Brisbane on Sunday. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to bat first. Sophie Devine and Maddy Green began off steadily with positive strokes in the first two overs. The left-arm spinner Molineux bought into the attack struck by getting rid of Sophie Devine with a simple return catch to the bowler. Trying to steal a third run, Maddy Green was run out by a brilliant throw by Wareham and gather by Healy leaving New Zealand in trouble at 19 for 2. It was a historic day for women’s cricket as England defeated New Zealand in the finals of the inaugural edition of World T20 played at Lords, London on 21 st June 2009. England captain Charlotte Edwards won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Laura Marsh got the big wicket of Suzie Bates in the 1 st over itself. Katherine Brunt dismissed Aimee Watkins to put New Zealand under pressure at 10 for 2. At the end of six overs, New Zealand made just 18 for 2. The defending Champions Australia register a close 4 run win against New Zealand in a virtual quarterfinal played at Junction Oval, Melbourne on Monday. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to field first. Beth Mooney looked in fine touch playing with positive intent. Jensen got the breakthrough dismissing Healy for just 9. The pitch had good bounce and carry. At the end of six overs, Australia were 38 for 1. The Indian women’s team held their nerves to register a 4 runs win over New Zealand in their Group A match played at Junction Oval, Melbourne on Thursday. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided to field first. Smriti Mandhana who missed the last match played some lovely strokes before being bowled by Tahuhu. Taniya Bhatia who was promoted to number 3 looked in decent touch. Shafali Verma continued her superb form with attacking stroke play and made life tough for White Ferns bowlers. At the end of six overs, India 49 for 1. After the power play overs, Verma was dropped by Maddy Green. Mair struck for White Ferns as she dismissed Bhatia.
