It was a tearful day for International cricket as the two legends announced retirement from cricket on 18 th August. The Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayewardene played his final Test match against Pakistan at SSC, Colombo on 18 th August 2014. He failed in the first innings by scoring just 4 runs. In the 2 nd innings, he scored a valuable 54 helping Sri Lanka set a target of 271 runs. Rangana Hearth 5 wicket haul helped Sri Lanka register a 105 runs win. It was a fitting end to a remarkable career for Mahela Jayewardene. He played a total of 149 Test matches (252 innings) and scored 11814 runs at an amazing average of 49.84. Along with Kumar Sangakkara, the right-handed batsman put on massive partnerships helping the Sri Lankan team register famous wins from tough situations.
