The young Indian player put some pressure on Gilmour, but the Scottish looked dominating right from the word go making life tough for Bansod.  Scotland player won the game easily by 13-21, 9-21.  The Indian women’s team started the 2021 Uber Cup on a winning note against Spain in Group B played at Ceres Court Arena 1, Aarhus on Sunday. In the opening match of the tie, Saina Nehwal retired midway against Clara Azurmendi. It was a close-fought game as both players fought for each point. At the mid-game interval, Clara had a slender led. After the break, the match went right down the wire before Clara won the first game at 22-20. Due to a groin injury, Saina retried midway. Malvika Bansod made it level for India with a commanding win over Beatriz Corrales in two straight games.  In governing body meeting taken place in Kuala Lumpur today, the schedule and groups for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup have been announced. On 29 th April 2020, the tournament was postponed to 3 rd to 11 th October due to COVID pandemic. Again, on 15 th September, it was again postponed. The prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup will be held from 9 th -17 th October at Arhus, Denmark. There are 16 teams divided into four groups in both tournaments. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockouts. The Quarterfinals line up will take from 15 th October while the semi-finals on 16 th . The finals will take on 17 th October. Indian badminton teams failed to reach the knockout stage in 2018 edition.
