Thailand Open 2025: Performance of Indian Shuttlers in Round 1

  The Indian shuttlers had a mixed day in round 1 matches of the Super 500 Thailand Open played at Bangkok on 14 th May 2025. Starting the session, Akarshi Kashyap defeated K Sugiyama of Japan in three thrilling games. The Indian began the first game on a positive note winning it by 21-16. It was a closely fought game with both players fighting for each point before Sugiyama won it by 22-20. The third game was another closely fought encounter as Akarshi showed her class holding onto her nerves winning it 22-20 to move into the second round. She will face Kathenong of Thailand.   The Indian challenge ended with both Lakshya Sen & Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand could not cross the line in the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 All England Badminton Championship 2025 played at Birmingham on 14 th March. Lakshya Sen suffered a straight-game loss to Li Shifeng of China. The first game began with both players taking alternate points till 4-4. Li dominated the play not allowing any sniff to Lakshya keeping pressure with attacking shots. At the mid-game break, Li took a commanding 11-4 lead.   After the interval, it was one-way traffic as the 6 th seeded Li maintained pressure winning the first game easily at 21-10.   The Indian contingent had a mixed outing as 2 of them made it into the quarterfinals of the prestigious Super 1000 All England Badminton Championship 2025 played in Birmingham on 13 th March. Lakshya Sen produced a dominating performance over world number 2 Jonathan Christie. He looked in sublime form right from the word putting consistent pressure on the Indonesian. Sen attacked Christie and not allow any chances for his opponent to make a comeback winning in straight games by 21-13, 21-10. He will face Li Shifeng of China in the quarterfinals. The women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand stunned the South Korean pair of Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Jong in three thrilling games.   The Indian shuttlers had a mixed outing with 2 out of 4 progressed it into the next round of the prestigious Super 1000 All England Badminton Championship 2025 played at Birmingham on 12 th March. The mixed doubles pairing of Rohan Kapoor & Shivani Gadde defeated Ye H-w and NG Chan of Chinese Taipei in three thrilling games. It was a dominating performance by the Indian pair putting pressure on their opponents before winning the first game easily at 21-10. It was a closely fought second game as Rohan and Shivani Gadde dominated most of the game, but lost the momentum in the dying moments as Ye and Chan won the second game at 21-17 to force the game into the decider.
