WPL 2025: All You Need To Know

 

The 2025 edition of the Women’s Premier League is going to start with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru taking on Gujarat Giants in the opening match to be played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 14th February 2025.

The matches will be played at Vadodara, Lucknow, Bengaluru & Mumbai. It promises to be an exciting tournament. Few of the teams will be missing key players because of injuries or personal reasons.

Here we look at the details of all 5 teams

1.      Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

The defending Champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to defend their title. They will be without key players, including Sophie Devine who opted out due to personal reasons while Sophie Molineux has been ruled out because of an injury.

RCB has suffered another huge blow as Asha Sobhana will not take part in the tournament. Nuzhaat Parveen will be her replacement.

2.      Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals performed brilliantly in last year’s edition reaching the finals of WPL 2024. They failed to deliver the goods, losing to the eventual champions RCB. DC will be eager to perform well this time and qualify again for the top 3.

3.      Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians lost in the eliminator against Royal Challengers Bengaluru after being in a strong position.  They retained their group from last year and hope to make a comeback with a bang with great performances.

Harmanpreet Kaur's led side has been dealt a major blow as Pooja Vastkar will not take part in the tournament due to an injury. Parunika Sisodia who played a key role in India's Under 19 World Cup victory has been named her replacement.

4.      UPW

It was a disappointing outing for the UPW Warriorz in the 2024 edition. They failed to perform well as a unit finishing fourth and could not qualify for the top 3 stages.

Under the captaincy of Healy, UPW won 3 matches while lost 5 to be knocked out of the knockout stages.

UPW have been dealt a major blow as Alyssa Healy will miss the tournament due to an injury.
