This Day That Year: Amelia Kerr recorded the highest individual score in women’s ODI


On 13th June 2018, history was created as Amelia Kerr registered the highest individual score in women’s One-day international during the 3rd ODI match played against Ireland.
New Zealand captain Suzie Bates won the toss and decided to bat first. Kerr was promoted at the top of the order along with Amy Satterthwaite. The youngster was positive right from word go and never allowed the Ireland bowlers settle. At the end of 10 overs, New Zealand raced to 78 for 0.
Satterthwaite completed her fifty-first off 36 balls while Kerr also completed her fifty off 45 balls. Lewis got the breakthrough for Ireland getting the wicket of Satterthwaite for 61. Satterthwaite and Kerr added 113 runs in just 14.1 overs.

Kasperek joined in with Kerr and plundered the Ireland bowling line up. Kerr looked in fine touch and completed her century off 77 balls. After her milestone, she made the batting look easy with attacking stroke play. Kasperek also completed her fifty off 53 balls. Kerr upped the ante and completed her 150 off 102 balls. It was an amazing display of batting which was filled with innovative strokes dominating the Ireland bowling line up.

Kerr took the Ireland bowlers apart hitting them all over the ground and completed her 200 off 134 balls. She and Kasperek added a mammoth 295 runs stand for the 2nd wicket. Kasperek was dismissed for a superb 113. Amelia remained not out on 232 off 145 balls with 31 fours and 2 sixes. With this knock, she surpassed Bendila Clarke knock off 229* during the 1997 World Cup played against Denmark.

Her record-breaking knock helped New Zealand post a massive total of 440 for 3. She made a mark in bowling also by picking 5 for 17 in 7 overs to help White Ferns register 305 runs win. Kerr was named the man of the series in 3 match series.

Amelia Kerr broke many records during this knock. She is the third batsman overall to register the third-highest induvial score in ODIs. Rohit Sharma 264 and Martin Guptill 237 are the other two players who achieved this remarkable feat. She also became the youngest player to score a double century in ODIs.

It was a dominating performance by the White Ferns side who decimated Ireland side by whitewashing them 3-0.
