Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

 

The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5th June 2025.

Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16.

The second game also began well for both pairs. Satwik/Chirag made a strong comeback whenever Kjaer and Sogaard look to take the game away. At the mid-game break, Danish pair again took a 11-10 lead. After the interval, Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to level the scores and then won it by 21-18 to force into the decider.

It was a closely fought affair in the third game as both pairs fought for each point. At the mid-game break, Danish pair had a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly with smashes. It ebbed and flowed before Indian pairing won by 22-20 to move into the quarterfinals. They will 7th seeded Man W C and Tee KW of Malaysia.

PV Sindhu suffered a heart-breaking loss to Pornpawee Chocuwong in three thrilling games. The first game saw Chocuwong put enough pressure on Sindhu keeping her under immense pressure. After the mid-game break, Thai player looked in complete control taking 16-10 lead. Sindhu fought back strongly to level the scores at 16-16. It ebbed and flowed before the Indian took the first game with 22-20 scoreline.

Pornpawee showed domination in the second game with lovely smashes not allowing any chances to Sindhu. It was a great performance by Chocuwong as she won the second game comfortably at 21-10. Sindhu committed lot of misjudgement with ball landing inside.  

The third game started with both players taking alternate points. Sindhu looked in great control with smashes keeping the momentum. At the mid-game break, the Indian had 11-8 lead. After the break, Chocuwong took 3 points in succession to level it at 11-11.

Sindhu looked to take the game with a 16-13 lead before Chocuwong showed skills to crawl back. The match ebbed and flowed before the Thai held onto her nerves winning the decider by 21-18.

The women’s doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand suffered loss in straight games to Fukushima/Matsumoto of Japan. The first game started with both pairs taking alternate points. The Japanese pairing showed domination to win the first game easily at 21-13.

The second game began on even keel with both pairs taking alternate points. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri fought strongly to take a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the break, the match ebbed and flowed before Japanese pair won it by 24-22.

The mixed doubles pairing of Karunakaran/Variyath were completely outplayed by 7-21, 12-21 to the Thailand pair of Puvaruanukroh/Paewsamparn in two straight games.

1.      Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated Kjaer/Sogaard (Men’s Doubles)- 16-21, 21-18, 22-20

2.      PV Sindhu lost to Pornpawee Chocuwong (Women’s Singles)- 22-20, 10-21, 18-21

3.      Tressa Jolly/ Gayatri Gopichand lost to Fukushima/ Matsumoto (Women’s Doubles)- 13-21, 22-24

4.      S Karunakaran/ A Variyath lost to Puvaruanukroh/Paewsamparn (Mixed Doubles)- 7-21, 12-21.
