The Indian Cricket Team proved their domination as they defeated Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup game played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 2nd July.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. Rohit Sharma started off to an aggressive start putting pressure on Bangladeshi bowlers. He was given a reprieve as Tamim Iqbal dropped an easy catch chance. On the other hand, KL Rahul also looked in decent touch. At the end of 10 overs, India raced to 69 for 0.

Rohit Sharma was simply unstoppable making the Bangladeshi bowlers look weak and completed his fifty off 45 balls. KL Rahul played with positive intent putting them under severe pressure reaching a half-century off 57 balls. The Indian openers kept the momentum going taking singles and hitting boundaries.

Rohit completed his century off 90 balls. It was an amazing knock by the explosive opener who was eventually dismissed for 104 by Soumya Sarkar. The Indian openers added 180 runs laying a strong foundation to post a massive total.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli came to the crease and kept on the momentum. Rubel Hossain struck to get rid of Rahul for 77. Rishabh Pant was in top form right from the word go with big strokes to put more pressure on the Bangladeshi bowlers. Shakib AL Hasan dismissed Kohli to end 42 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. In the same over, Hardik Pandya got out for 0.

MS Dhoni and Pant put on 40 runs for the 5th wicket, as Pant scored 48 off 41 balls. The Bangladeshi bowlers made a strong comeback by picking wickets at regular intervals in death overs. India ended the innings at 314 for 9 in 50 overs.

Chasing 315 runs to win, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar began off steadily with positive stroke play. Mohammed Shami produced a beauty to make the breakthrough getting rid of Tamim. The Bangladeshi openers added 39 runs. At the end of 10 overs, Bangladesh scored 40 for 1.

The Indian bowlers kept a tight line and length not allowing Bangladeshi batsmen to score runs easily. Hardik Pandya got the wicket of Soumya Sarkar to put the Bangla Tigers under pressure. Shakib AL Hasan looked extremely impressed with his stroke play and provided some resistance. He showed his class and completed his half-century off 58 balls. Hardik Pandya dismissed Shakib to break the backbone of the Bangladeshi batting line up. Sabbir Rahman tried his best but the task was too much. Every Bangladeshi batsman made starts but was not able into big scores. Jasprit Bumrah displayed brilliant Yorkers and provided the breakthrough whenever Kohli needed it.

Mohammed Saifuddin completed his fifty off 37 balls. Bumrah produced a brilliant yorker to dismiss Mustafizur Rahman as India registered a comfortable 28 runs win.
With this brilliant century, Rohit Sharma broke the record of Sourav Ganguly of most centuries in a World Cup edition. Also, he equaled Kumar Sangakkara’s achievement of scoring 4 centuries during the 2015 WC.

The Indian team qualified for the semi-finals stage. For his 104 off 92 balls, Rohit Sharma was awarded the man of the match.

India 314 for 9 in 50 overs (Rohit Sharma 104, KL Rahul 77, Mustafizur Rahman 5/59) beat Bangladesh 286 in 48 overs (Shakib AL Hasan 66, Saifuddin 51*, Jasprit Bumrah 4/55, Hardik Pandya 3/60) by 28 runs.
