Australia announce 21-man squad for the limited overs series against England
The Australian Cricket Board have announced a 21-man squad for
the limited-overs series against England starting from 4th September
2020. It will comprise of 3 T20Is and 3 ODI matches.
It will be Australia’s first international assignment since
their last match against New Zealand on March 13. The team looks strong enough
with Aaron Finch leading the squad.
Australian batting looks strong with the likes of Aaron
Finch, Warner, Smith, Labuschagne. Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are making a
comeback into the team. They have included Big Bash star, Joshua Phillippe.
Matthew Wade, Alex Carey are the two wicketkeepers included.
Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell will consist of all-rounders.
The bowling department looks strong with the likes of
Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood, Sean Abbott, Kane Richardson,
Andrew Tye. They have included the top performers of BBL last year comprising
of Daniel Sams, Riley Meredith.
Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar and Nathan Lyon are the three
spinners included. It promises to be a mouth-watering clash between the top two
powerhouses of cricket.
Australia would begin their campaign in the ICC World Super
League tournament. England started their journey with a 2-1 series win over
Ireland.
They would play a practice match in Derby before moving the bio-secure bubble. The three T20Is would be played on 4th, 6th
and 8th September at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. This would be followed
by three ODI matches on 11th, 13th, and 16th September
at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Both England and Australian players would miss the first
week of IPL season 13. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Australia has not played
any cricket since 13th March.
These two teams met twice in the ICC World Cup 2019. Australia
won the league match at Lords on 25th June. England produced a
dominating performance in the semi-finals as they crushed Australia by 8
wickets to qualify for the finals.
