Indian teams’ groups for Thomas and Uber Cup announced

In good news for all badminton fans, the Indian teams’ groups for the prestigious Thomas and Uber Cup have been announced by the Badminton World Federation.

The Thomas and Uber Cup was postponed twice due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It was supposed to be held from 16th-24th May but rescheduled from 15th-23rd August. The Badminton World Federation postponed it in October due to the situation prevailing in the world. After the All England Badminton Championship played in March, no tournament has been possible due to the global health crisis.

Indian men’s team has been clubbed in Group C with defending Champions Denmark, Germany, and Algeria. In the 2018 edition, Indian men did not qualify for the knockout stage. Group A comprises of 13-time champions Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, and England. China, Chinese Taipei, Australia, and France consists of Group B.

Group D comprises of Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Canada. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knockout stage. The Indian men’s team will fancy their chances to qualify for the quarterfinals.

In the women’s category, the Indian team has been clubbed with 13-time Champions China, France, and Germany in Group D. Defending Champions, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Egypt, and Spain comprise Group A.

Group B comprises of South Korea, Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia. Thailand, Denmark, Scotland, and Canada consist of Group C. The Indian women will fancy their chances to qualify for the quarterfinals stage. In the 2018 edition, it was a disappointing performance as they finished 3rd in the points table.

The Thomas Cup and Uber Cup will provide a great platform for the Indian star players to gear up for qualifying to Tokyo Olympics held next year. It would take place from 3rd to 11th October at Aarhus, Denmark.

Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16. The second game also began well for both pairs. Satwik/Chirag made a strong comeback whenever Kjaer and Sogaard look to take the game away. At the mid-game break, Danish pair again took a 11-10 lead.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games. The Indian pair struggled in the initial phases of the first game trailing by 3-6 before taking 7 points in succession to put the pressure back on the Chinese pair.
