CPL 2020 Finals: Lendl Simmons and Darren Bravo’s partnership leads TKR to their fourth CPL title
Thanks to a superb partnership between Lendl Simmons and
Darren Bravo, Trinbago Knight Riders defeated St Lucia Zouks by 8 wickets in
the finals of CPL 2020 played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad on Thursday.
Trinbago Knight Riders captain Kieron Pollard won the toss
and decided to field first. Rakheem Cornwall began off well with 2 lovely
boundaries before Ali produced a beauty to get rid of him. Mark Deyal and Andre
Fletcher looked in fluent touch right from word go putting pressure on Knight
Riders bowlers. At the end of six overs, Zouks raced away to 60 for 1.
Deyal and Fletcher made the batting look easy. Fawad Ahmed produced
the breakthrough getting rid of Deyal trying to hit a big shot. Deyal and
Fletcher added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket. Kieron Pollard bought
himself into the attack getting the wicket of Fletcher. Najibullah Zadran and
Roston Chase played with intent putting pressure on the Knight Riders bowlers.
Pollard struck again by getting the wicket of Chase with a slower delivery
giving an easy catch to Webster at long-off.
Fawad Ahmed was bought into the attack and took the important
wicket of Mohammad Nabi. Knight Riders kept on picking wickets at regular
intervals to bowl out Zouks for 154 in 19.1 overs. Kieron Pollard did the job
for Knight Riders with 4 for 30, Fawad Ahmed and Ali Khan taking 2 wickets
each, Hosein 1 wicket.
Dwayne Bravo did not bowl a single over while Sunil Narine
was dropped due to an injury. It was a remarkable performance as Kieron Pollard
did a brilliant job with the ball and restricted the Zouks score.
Lendl Simmons was given a reprieve of the very first ball
as Zahir Khan could not pick up a catch at short fine leg and went to the
boundary. In the same over, Scott Kugglein dropped a tough return catch in the
first over. After a decent over by Mohammad Nabi, Roston Chase got the
breakthrough dismissing Tom Webster with an amazing catch by Kesrick Williams.
Scott Kugglein produced a cracking delivery to dismiss Tim
Seifert to leave Knight Riders in some trouble. Lendl Simmons hit 3 boundaries
off Kesrick Williams. At the end of six overs, Knight Riders scored 40 for 2.
Darren Bravo and Lendl Simmons struggled against the Zouks
bowlers. Simmons took on Kesrick Williams hitting him for plenty of runs and
completed his fifty off 31 balls. Darren Bravo and Simmons took the attack to
Zahir Khan taking him for 23 runs in the 17th over to tilt the match
in favor of TKR. Bravo reached his fifty off 45 balls. Simmons and Bravo
completed the job for Knight Riders as they put on unbeaten 138 runs for the 3rd
wicket. TKR won the match by 8 wickets with 11 balls to spare.
For his unbeaten 84 off 49 balls, Lendl Simmons was named
the man of the match award. Kieron Pollard for his all-round contribution was awarded
the man of the series award.
Trinbago Knight Riders 157 for 2 in 18.1 overs (Lendl
Simmons 84*, Darren Bravo 58*, Chase 1/13) beat St Lucia Zouks 154 in 19.1
overs (Andre Fletcher 39, Deyal 29, Kieron Pollard 4/30) by 8 wickets.
