CPL Match 21: Trinbago Knight Riders beat Jamaica by 19 runs to continue their winning streak
It was another good performance as Trinbago Knight Riders defeated
Jamaica Tallawahs to register their 7th successive win played at
Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad on Tuesday.
Tallawahs captain Rovman Powell won the toss and decided to
field first. Sunil Narine coming back into the squad gave Knight Riders a
flying start putting pressure on the opposition bowlers right from word go.
Braithwaite got the breakthrough dismissing dangerous Narine for 29 off 11
balls. On the other hand, Lendl Simmons struggled with his timing.
Munro was given a reprieve as Blackwood dropped a sitter. It
was a decent start for Knight Riders as they scored 49 for 1 at the end of six
overs. Lendl Simmons looked out of sorts with his timing. Colin Munro played
with intent and keep on ticking the scoreboard. Lendl Simmons struggle ended as
Lammichhane dismissed him for 25. Munro and Simmons added 46 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Tim Seifert came to the crease and hit a quickfire 18 off 11
balls before being caught by Lammichhane at third man. Colin Munro took the
attack to Jamaica bowlers against the spinners playing reverse sweeps. Knight
Riders captain Kieron Pollard continued his sensational form that he
displayed in the last match. Munro completed his fifty off 45 balls. It was an
amazing partnership between Munro and Pollard adding 73 runs in 5.4 overs.
Trinbago Knight Riders posted a mammoth total of 184 for 4 in 20 overs.
Chasing 185 runs to win, it was a horrible start for Jamaica
as Chadwick Walton was dismissed by Hosein off the very first ball of the
innings. Jermaine Blackwood hit 3 lovely boundaries before being dismissed by
Pierre. Jamaica batsmen struggled with his timing and looked way below the
required rate. At the end of six overs, Jamaica scored 35 for 2.
Glenn Philips and Bonner hit some lovely shots to put some
pressure on Knight Riders bowlers. Fawad Ahmed struck to dismiss Bonner. Bonner
and Philips added 64 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ahmed struck again by
getting rid of Jamaica captain Rovman Powell. Phillips who looked good was deceived
by Dwayne Bravo.
Asif Ali could not contribute much as he was dismissed by
Sunil Narine cheaply. Andre Russell was demoted lower down the order. Carlos
Braithwaite came to the crease and hit big shots. Russell showed his class but could
not help Jamaica register a win. He reached his fifty with a six off 23 balls.
Russell and Braithwaite added unbeaten 68 runs for the 7th wicket.
