CPL Match 23: All-round Knight Riders crush St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
It was another dominating performance by Trinbago Knight
Riders as they cruised to a comfortable 59 runs win against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
to make it 8 out of 8 wins played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Wednesday.
TKR decided to rest Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Seales.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Rayad Emrit won the toss
and decided to field first. TKR openers Lendl Simmons and Jangoo got off to a
steady start before Sheldon Cottrell produced a brilliant pick up throw to run
out Jangoo for 6. Colin Munro and Simmons played some lovely strokes as rain
arrived with the scoreboard reading 29 for 1 in 4 overs.
After the rain delay, Colin Munro had to retire hurt because
of an injury. Simmons looked in decent touch and put the Kitts bowlers under
pressure. At the end of six overs, Knight Riders posted 52 for 1.
St Kitts bowlers made a strong comeback into the game by
bowling tight lines and lengths. Darren Bravo struggled with his timing. The
stylish left-handed batsman Bravo finally broke the drought with a lovely
boundary. Simmons and Bravo took on the Kitts bowlers with aggressive strokes.
Simmons reached his fifty off 42 balls while Bravo upped the ante. Both batsmen
smashed 33 runs of Sheldon Cottrell and Drakes over to gain momentum.
After an expensive third over by Sheldon Cottrell, he
delivered a brilliant 19th over and took the wicket of Darren Bravo.
Bravo and Simmons added 130 runs for the 2nd wicket. Lendl Simmons
was dismissed four short of his 2nd century by Drakes and then Seifert
was dismissed off the very next ball. Stand-in captain Dwayne Bravo hit a six
off the last ball to help Knight Riders post 174 for 4 in 20 overs.
It was not an ideal start for St Kitts and Patriots with the
chase. Evin Lewis was brilliantly caught by Pravin Tambe off Khary Pierre
bowling. Chris Lynn struggled against Pierre and Hossein. Lynn and de Silva hit
18 runs from the final over before the power play over. At the end of six
overs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots scored 34 for 1.
Pravin Tambe was introduced into the attack and created
enough pressure on Kitts batsmen. Joshua Da Silva looked good with his stroke play
but could not capitalize on the start. Lynn and Silva added 57 runs for the 2nd
wicket. Dwayne Bravo got the big wicket of Chris Lynn after being hit for a
six. Lynn made 34 off 46 balls and put the St Kitts batsmen under pressure. Sikander
Raza joined the party by picking 3 wickets of Dunk, Ramdin, and Drakes. Hossein
got the wicket of Joseph.
Trinbago Knight Riders produced a dominating performance as
they restricted St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to 115 for 7.
For his 96 off 63 balls, Lendl Simmons was named the man of
the match award. By the virtue of this win, TKR registered their 8th successive win of the tournament.
Trinbago Knight Riders 174 for 4 in 20 overs (Lendl Simmons 96, Bravo 36, Drakes 2/35) beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 115 for 7 in 20 overs ( Lynn 34, Da Silva 29, Sikander Raza 3/15) by 59 runs.
