CPL Match 25: St Kitts knocked out of the tournament after washout
St Kitts disappointing end of the tournament came to an end
as their match with Jamaica Tallawahs was washed out due to heavy rains in the
25th match played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad on Thursday.
Tallawahs captain Rovman Powell won the toss and decided to
field first. Evin Lewis began the innings off to a positive start scoring 10
runs off the first over from Fidel Edwards. Tallawahs bowlers came back
strongly with 3 tight overs. Chris Lynn hit 2 sixes and 1 four in the 5th
over off Mujeeb Ur Rahman to bring the momentum. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
showed their class before the rain arrived with the scoreboard reading 46 for 0 in
5.4 overs.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' performance in the tournament
has been dreadful. With the washout, Rayad Emrit led side has now 3 points from
9 matches. Their only win in this season was against Barbados Tridents where
Evin Lewis scored a match-winning 89 and helped them to register their first
win. They have just 1 match left against Trinbago Knight Riders to be played on
6th September.
On the other hand, Jamaica Tallawahs moved up to 7 points.
They have won 3 matches in the tournament and 4 losses. Their performance has
been a mixed bag so far. Under the captaincy of Rovman Powell, they have 2
matches left.
The fate of Jamaica depends upon the match between Guyana
Amazon Warriors and Barbados Tridents in the 2nd match today. Jamaica
has two matches left in the tournament one against Tridents on 5th September
and the final match against St Lucia Zouks on 6th September.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' poor performance has been lacking
top-order batting, no big hitters in the middle order. Their bowling has not
been up to the mark and conceding big runs.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 46 for 0 in 5.4 overs (Chris
Lynn 23*) match washed out.
