New number 1 ranked batsmen in latest ICC Test rankings
After the Test matches between India- Australia, and New
Zealand- Pakistan, there have been changes in the latest ICC Test rankings announced
today.
Kiwis captain Kane Williamson overtakes Steve Smith to
occupy the number 1 Test batsman rankings. He made 129 runs in the first
innings of the first Test match played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, and was
named the man of the match award for his match-winning knock.
The Indian captain Virat Kohli who is currently not
featuring in the Test series remains at the number 2 position. After scoring 0 and 8 in
the 2nd Test match against India at MCG, Steve Smith slips down 2
places down to number 3.
Marnus Labuschagne retained his fourth position with scores
of 48 and 28 in the 2nd Test match against India at MCG. Babar Azam
also maintains his position at number 5 despite not playing in the first Test
match against New Zealand.
The Indian stand-in captain Ajiyanka Rahane climbs up to
number 6th position. He led from the front with a superb 112 runs in
the 1st innings and scored the winning runs to level the series.
David Warner who did not feature in the 2nd Test match slipped down one
place to number 7th.
Ben Stokes also slipped down one place to number 8th
as he has not featured recently. The England Test captain Joe Root maintains
the number 9th position.
With scores of 17 and 3 runs in the 2nd Test
match, Cheteshwar Pujara slips down 2 places to number 10th.

In the bowling rankings, Pat Cummins continues to maintain number 1. He took 3 wickets in the 2nd Test match against India
at MCG.
Stuart Broad, Neil Wagner, Tim Southee maintain their
positions. Southee and Wagner performed brilliantly in the 1st Test
match against Pakistan.
The left-arm express pace bowler from Australia, Mitchell
Starc entered the top 5 rankings. He was decent enough with 4 wickets in the 2nd
Test match at MCG.
South African pace bowler Kagiso Rabada who did not feature
in the 1st Test match against Sri Lanka, maintains his number 6th
place. The right-arm off-spinner R Ashwin led the pack taking 5 wickets that
resulted in India’s historic win at MCG climbed up to number 7th in bowlers’
rankings.
Josh Hazlewood did not perform according to the expected level
in the 2nd Test match at MCG slipped down one place to number 8th.
Jasprit Bumrah led the inexperienced pace bowling line-up
was brilliantly taking 6 wickets climbs to number 9th in rankings.
James Anderson slipped down one place to number 10th
ranking. He has not played many matches since their tour at home.
