BWF World Tour finals Day 2: PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth crash out of the tournament

 

It was a disappointing day for the Indian shuttlers as PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth lost their second matches and knocked out of the BWF World Tour finals played in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

Srikanth goes down fighting to Wang Tzu Wei

Kidambi Srikanth played his heart out as he lost to Wang Tzu Wei in a thrilling contest that went right down the wire. In the opening game, the Indian took an early 4-2 lead before Wang showed his class by taking in succession to increase the lead at 8-5. Both players fought for each point with long rallies putting the opposition under pressure. At the mid-game interval, Srikanth had a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, the Indian maintained a strong lead before Wang created enough pressure and gave a scare to Srikanth. A superb shot on the backline helped Srikanth take the first game at 21-19.

The second game saw Wang played with aggression and put Srikanth under immense pressure. It was an amazing display of the Chinese Taipei player taking a commanding 11-5 lead at the interval. After the break, Wang maintained his dominance and won the second game easily 21-9.

In the third and deciding game, Srikanth began off brilliantly to take a 4-1 lead. Soon after Wang made a strong comeback to take 8 points in succession. Srikanth fought back strongly to level the scores as both players showed great stamina and fitness. At the mid-game interval, Wang had a slender 11-10 lead.

After the mid-game interval, Wang played with aggression as Srikanth committed silly errors. It was an amazing display of badminton by both players fighting for each point. Trailing at 16-20, Srikanth saved three match points. The Indian hit the shuttle wide as Wang won the third game at 21-19. Anotosen defeated Na Ka Long Anus in straight sets, thus Srikanth failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

PV Sindhu disappoint in her second match

PV Sindhu went down in straight sets to Ratchnok Intanon in two straight sets. In the opening game, the Indian began off brilliantly with great smashes and put the Thai player under pressure. At the mid-game interval, Sindhu led 11-7. After the interval, Sindhu continued to lead at 14-10 before Intanon made a strong comeback to level the scores at 14-14. Intanon played aggressive badminton and won four successive points winning the first game at 21-18.

The second game saw Intanon played with aggression and never allowed the Indian to enter the game. Right from the word go, the Thai player showed her class winning it easily at 21-13. Chocuwong defeated Tai Tzu Ying in straight sets. With 2 straight losses, Sindhu failed to make it into the semi-finals.
