BWF World Tour Finals Day 3: Kidambi Srikanth loses again, Sindhu ends the tournament with a win
It was a mixed day for the Indian shuttlers as Kidambi
Srikanth lost his last group match while PV Sindhu ended with a consolation win
in the BWF World Tour finals played at Bangkok, Thailand on Friday.
Srikanth ends the tournament with a loss
Srikanth ended the tournament with another close loss to Na Ka
Long Anus of Hong Kong, China in three grueling sets. The first game saw
Srikanth starting with an aggressive start before Na Kong Long leveled the
scores. Indian showed great fighting spirit putting the Hong Kong player under
pressure with his smashes. At the mid-game interval, Srikanth took an 11-8 lead.
After the interval, Srikanth maintained his dominance over Hong Kong player
winning the first game easily at 21-12.
The second game saw Na Ka Long played with aggression and
put the Indian under pressure. After the initial stages, both players fought
for each point before Na Ka Long had a lead at the interval. The Indian made a
strong comeback to level the scores at 13-13. Srikanth committed lots of
mistakes as Na Ka Long Anus took advantage winning the second game at 21-18
to force the match into the decider.
In the final and deciding game, Na Ka Long started off
brilliantly before Srikanth made a strong comeback. Both players fought for
each point as the Hong Kong player took an 11-10 lead at the interval. After the
break, it was an amazing contest as one tried to go away from the contest, but
another player makes a comeback to level the game at 19-19. Na Ka Long Anus took
2 points in succession to win the decider at 21-19. Srikanth played extremely well
but lost his composure in all three matches.
PV Sindhu register first win in the tournament.
PV Sindhu proved his worth as she registered the first win
of the tournament beating Pornapee Chochuwong of Thailand in two straight games.
It was an evenly matched start as both players earned alternate points. After
the initial struggle, PV Sindhu played with aggression and put the Thai player under
pressure. At the mid-game interval, the Indian took an 11-9 lead.
After the break, Sindhu maintained her lead before Chochuwong
produced a stunning display to level the scores at 14-14. The Indian kept on
putting pressure with smashes and drop shots winning the first game by 21-18.
The second game saw Sindhu began with an aggressive mindset taking
7-0 lead and continued to maintain the lead till 11-4 at the interval. After
the break, the Thai player showed some glimpses, but Sindhu showed her class to
win the second game easily at 21-15 to end the tournament on a high.
