India vs Australia 4th Test 1st Day: Match evenly poised
Despite the injuries, India did a great job to restrict
Australia on the opening day of the 4th Test match played at Gabba, Brisbane
on Friday.
Australian captain Tim Paine won the toss and decided to bat
first. It was an ideal start for the visitors as Mohammed Siraj got rid of
David Warner in the very first over via a superb catch by Rohit Sharma at first
slips. The Indian bowling line-up made 4 changes with R Ashwin and Jasprit
Bumrah being ruled out of the match due to injuries.
Shardul Thakur struck in his very first over dismissing
Marcus Harris with an easy catch by Washington Sundar to leave Australia in
some trouble at 17 for 2. T Natarajan bowled consistent lines and lengths.
Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne looked steady enough with their strokes.
Navdeep Saini was bought into the attack in the 21st over while
Washington Sundar bowled tightly not conceding any runs in his first three
overs. Australia went into the lunch break at 65 for 2.
After the lunch break, it was a good start by Labuschagne and
Steve Smith playing with intent. Washington Sundar took his maiden Test wicket
by getting rid of Smith giving a simple catch to Rohit Sharma. Smith and Labuschagne
added 70 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ajiyanka Rahane dropped an easy
catch at gully to dismiss Labuschagne. Navdeep Saini had to hobble off due to a groin injury.
Labuschagne was dropped once more by Pujara. Labuschagne took
the advantage and completed his fifty off 145 balls. Matthew Wade and Labuschagne
played with intent putting the bad balls away for boundaries making life tough
for the inexperienced bowling line-up. At the end of the second session,
Australia scored 154 for 3.
Labuschagne and Wade continued their aggressive approach in
the third session putting Indian bowlers under pressure. Labuschagne timed the
ball well to complete his century off 195 balls. With things looking bleak for
India, T Natarajan struck getting rid of Matthew Wade who tried to pull but
gave a simple catch to Shardul Thakur. Wade and Labuschagne added 113 runs for
the 4th wicket.

a superb 108. Cameron Green and Tim Paine struggled initially with good quality
bowling from all the Indian bowlers. Rahane took the second new ball in the 81st
