India vs Australia 4th Test 4th Day: Shardul Thakur and Siraj stole the show on a rain curtailed day
Despite the Australian team scoring at a quick pace, Mohammed
Siraj and Shardul Thakur stole the show on a rain-curtailed 4th day
of the 4th Test match played at Gabba, Brisbane on Monday.
Mohammed Siraj and T Natarajan troubled the Australian
bowlers. Rohit Sharma dropped a chance to get rid of Warner. Warner and Harris showed
their class keeping the scoreboard ticking. As things looked out of control for India,
Shardul Thakur produced a peach of a delivery to dismiss Marcus Harris to end a
dangerous 89 runs opening stand.
Soon after Washington Sundar got rid of David Warner. Warner
was given out and he decided to take the review after the timer went off. The
decision was upheld to bring back India into the game. Marnus Labuschagne
played with intent hitting lovely strokes keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Mohammed Siraj took 2 wickets in an over to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne with a
good catch by Rohit Sharma and fine tickle to get rid of Matthew Wade.
Steve Smith showed some intent with his strokes while
Cameron Green struggled to time the ball. Australia went into the lunch break
at 149 for 4.
After the lunch break, Mohammed Siraj dropped a simple
chance to get rid of Steve Smith at the boundary. Smith played with intent and
put the Indian bowlers under pressure reaching his fifty off 67 balls. Mohammed
Siraj produced a brilliant ball to get rid of Smith. Smith decided to review
the decision, but it was retained as it hit the gloves. Smith and Green added 73
runs for the 5th wicket. Siraj troubled Tim Paine with good
deliveries. Green played some lovely shots to put pressure on the Indian
bowlers.
Shardul Thakur coming into his next spell dismissed Green to
lift the Indian team again. Paine showed some class with attacking strokes.
Thakur bowled a sharp bouncer taking the edge of Paine. Before the stroke of
tea break, rain arrived with the scoreboard reading at 243 for 7.
The third session did not start on time due to rains. Soon
after the break, Siraj dismissed Mitchell Starc with a simple catch to Saini.
Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins enjoyed themselves with the bat hitting some quick
runs. Thakur dismissed Lyon to get his fourth wicket. Josh Hazlewood enjoyed
himself along with Pat Cummins.
Siraj took the wicket of Josh Hazlewood who tried to uppercut giving an easy catch to Shardul Thakur. Siraj picked his maiden five-wicket
haul in Test matches who made his debut in the 2nd match of this
series. The pitch looked tough to bat on as there were cracks on the pitch. India
bowled out Australia for 294 with a lead of 327.
Chasing 328 runs to win, Rohit Sharma played a brilliant
boundary against Mitchell Starc before rain stopped play. The stage is set for
a superb finish as India requires 324 runs to win while Australia need 10
wickets.
If India draws the match, the Men in Blue will retain the prestigious
Border- Gavaskar Trophy because they won in 2018.
