India vs Australia 4th Test 5th Day: India seals a remarkable win the series
The Indian Cricket Team created history as they won a remarkable
3 wickets win on the fifth and final day of the 4th Test match
played at Gabba, Brisbane on Tuesday.
Starting on the overnight score of 4 for 0, it was not an
ideal start for the visitors as Rohit Sharma was brilliantly caught by Tim
Paine. Shubman Gill showed his class playing with intent putting the Australian
bowlers under pressure. On other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara remained solid
according to his usual self.
Gill created pressure on Nathan Lyon coming down the track
and hitting him for boundaries. Paine decided to rotate his fast bowlers, but
nothing worked for Australia. Pat Cummins bowled sharp bouncers against Pujara.
Gill completed his half-century off 90 balls and then smashed Mitchell Starc
for a brilliant six. The pitch had an uneven bounce that Australian bowlers did
not exploit. India went into the lunch break at 83 for 1.
After the lunch break, the Australian bowler's pacers hit
Pujara on his body parts including his fingers but remained firm with his solid
defense. On the other hand, Shubman Gill smashed 20 runs off Mitchell Starc
over to gain momentum for India. It was an amazing batting display by Gill who
showed his class. Nathan Lyon provided the breakthrough for the Australians
dismissing Gill with a good catch by Smith. Gill and Pujara added 114 runs for
the 2nd wicket.
Ajiyanka Rahane came to the crease and put the Australian
bowlers under immense pressure with an attacking approach. Cheteshwar Pujara also
joined in the party to hit boundaries keeping the scoreboard ticking. Pat
Cummins dismissed Rahane with a beauty. Rahane and Pujara added 35 runs for the
3rd wicket. India went into the tea break at 183 for 3.
Pujara and Pant started off slowly in the third session. Tim
Paine missed a stumping chance to get rid of Pant. Pujara looked solid with his
defensive technique to complete his fifty off 196 balls. The Australian captain
Tim Paine decided to take the 2nd new ball immediately. Cummins
produced a peach to dismiss Pujara. Pujara was given out but decided to review
the decision and the decision was upheld due to the umpires' call. Pujara and Pant added
61 runs for the 5th wicket. Rishabh Pant was simply sensational with
his stroke play against Hazlewood, Cummins. Mayank Agarwal also joined in and
hit some lovely strokes.
Pat Cummins did the job again for Australia getting rid of
Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal and Pant added 37 runs for the 6th wicket. Pant
was aggressive with intent reaching his fifty off 100 balls. Washington Sundar
took on Cummins and kept the scoreboard ticking. Nathan Lyon troubled Pant with
cracks on the pitch but could not pick his wicket. Sundar and Pant made life tough
for the Australian bowlers. With 10 runs to win, Sundar tried to reverse sweep
but hit on stumps. Sundar and Pant added 53 runs for the 6th wicket.
Pant kept on hitting innovative strokes and was aggressive
running between the wickets. Shardul Thakur got out trying to hit the winning
runs. Pant smashed a boundary to help India register a memorable 3 wickets win.
It was one of the best Test series with ebbs and flows as the young Indian team
showed resilience after being bowled out for 36 runs in the 2nd
innings of the first Test match at Adelaide Oval.
India 336 in 111.4 overs (Shardul
Thakur 67, Sundar 62, Hazlewood 5/57, Starc 2/88) and 329 for 7 in 97 overs (Gill
91, Pant 89*, Pujara 56, Cummins 4/55) beat Australia 369 in 115.2 overs (Labuschagne 108,
Paine 50, Green 47, Natarajan 3/78, Sundar 3/89) and 294 in 75.5 overs (Steve
Smith 55, Warner 48, Siraj 5/73, Shardul Thakur 4/61) by 3 wickets.
