BBL 10 finals: Sydney Sixers beat Perth Scorchers in the finals to retain the title
A superb all-round effort helped Sydney Sixers defeat Perth Scorchers
comfortably in the finals of the BBL 10 played at full capacity Sydney Cricket
Ground, SCG on Saturday.
Scorchers captain Ashton Turner won the toss and decided to
field first. It was a good start by Sixers openers as Josh Philippe and James
Vince provided a solid start putting pressure on the opposition bowlers. A
superb combination by Tye and Hardie resulted in the run-out of Josh Philippe.
At the end of the first four overs, Sixers made 31 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Daniel Hughes and James Vince steadied
the innings for Sixers. Vince looked in great touch hitting boundaries at will.
A superb catch by Colin Munro got the important breakthrough for Scorchers taking
the wicket of Hughes.
Sixers captain Henriques came to the crease and gave good
support to Vince who timed the ball brilliantly. Vince reached his fifty off 31
balls. Tye got the important wicket dismissing Henriques. Henriques and Vince
added 48 runs for the 3rd wicket. Vince was looking for a century
but got out trying to hit a big shot. Sixers took the power surge in the 16th
over and scored 25 runs in the 2 overs. Daniel Christian and Jordan Silk
provided the impetus putting on 37 runs for the 5th wicket.
Carlos Braithwaite provided some vital runs in the last over
and helped Sydney Sixers post 188 for 6 in 20 overs. For Scorchers, Tye was the
pick of the bowlers with 2 for 29 while Jhye Richardson also grabbed 2 wickets.
Chasing 189 runs to win, Cameron Bancroft looked in sublime
form right from the word go and put Sixers bowlers under pressure. Bancroft and
Livingstone scored 19 runs off Sean Abbott over to gain momentum. On the other
hand, Livingstone gave him good support. At the end of the first four overs, Scorchers
raced away to 43.
Jason Bird provided the breakthrough dismissing the
dangerous Bancroft as James Vince took an easy catch. Scorchers openers put on
45 runs to lay a strong foundation. Abbott grabbed the big wicket of Colin
Munro making life tough for the opposition. Liam Livingstone and Josh Inglis steadied
the innings keeping the scoreboard ticking by hitting boundaries. Bird struck
an important blow getting rid of Livingstone providing an easy catch to Silk.
Livingstone and Inglis added 39 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Sixers bowled some tight overs to put pressure on Scorchers batting
line-up. Taking the power surge in the 15th over A superb catch by
James Vince at covers ended the innings for Marsh and then Dwahrsius dismissed Inglis
to put pressure back on Scorchers batting line-up.
Hardie and Turner gave some hope smashing Carlos Braithwaite
for 16 runs in the 17th over. It was one-way traffic from there
onwards as Sydney Sixers restricted Perth to 161 for 8 winning the match by 27
runs.
Sydney Sixers 188 for 6 in 20 overs ( James Vince 95,
Christian 20, Tye 2/29) beat Perth Scorchers 161 for 9 in 20 overs (
Livingstone 45, Bancroft 30, Dwahrsius 3/37, Bird 2/14) by 27 runs.
For his 95 off 60 balls, James Vince was named the man of
the match award.
