BBL 10: Perth Scorchers move into the finals with a big win over Brisbane Heats

Thanks to all-round performance, Perth Scorchers proved too strong as they defeated Brisbane Heats in the challenger played at Manuka Oval, Canberra on Thursday.

Brisbane Heats captain Chris Lynn won the toss and decided to field first. After a quiet first over by Bartlett, Liam Livingstone looked in sublime touch putting the Brisbane Heats bowlers under pressure right from the word go. On the other hand, Bancroft who replaced Jason Roy also played with intent. At the end of the first four overs, Scorchers made 33 for 0.

After the field restrictions, Liam Livingstone upped the ante and kept on putting pressure on Brisbane Heats bowlers especially Swepson and Marnus Labuschagne. Heats decided to bring Morne Morkel as a replacement. Livingstone completed his fifty off just 27 balls to lay a strong foundation for a massive total.

Livingstone was severe on the short balls that were delivered by Swepson and Labuschagne. Bancroft also gave good support to England's hard-hitting opener. Swepson provided the breakthrough for Heats getting the dangerous Livingstone for a brilliant 77 off 39 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 197.44. Heats bowled some tight overs after the dismissal of Livingstone.

Mitchell Marsh promoted himself to number 3. Scorchers took the power surge in the 14th over. Marsh and Bancroft smacked 33 runs in the 2 overs. Bancroft completed his fifty off 40 balls. With the scoreboard reading at 189 for 1 in 18.1 overs, rain arrived. Marsh and Bancroft added unbeaten 75 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Chasing a revised target of 200 runs in 18 overs, it was a good start by Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendroff. Chris Lynn and Joe Denly smacked 22 runs in the 3rd over to give some momentum for Heats. Behrendroff got rid of Denly with a slower delivery to end 37 runs opening partnership. He struck again to dismiss the dangerous Chris Lynn to make life tougher for Heats. At the end of the first four overs, 37 for 2.

With the run rate climbing, Hardie took the wicket of Hazlett to put Heats more on the backfoot. Marnus Labuschagne could not big strokes and was dismissed by Fawad Ahmed by a beauty to leave Heats under immense pressure.

It was a tough ask for Heats batsmen to score runs at a brisk pace. Heats took the power surge after the 9th over. Joe Burns provided some entertainment, but Scorchers bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals. Scorchers won the match by a massive 49 runs gap via the DLS method.

Perth Scorchers 189 for 1 in 18.1 overs (Livingstone 77, Bancroft 58*, Marsh 49*, Swepson 1/26) beat Brisbane Heats 150 for 9 in 18 overs (Burns 38, Lynn 22, Hardie 3/46, Tye 2/25) by 49 runs via the DLS method.

For his superb knock of 77 from 39 balls, Liam Livingstone was named the man of the match award. Scorchers will face Sydney Sixers in the finals of BBL 10 to be played on 6th February at SCG, Sydney.
