Stats: Ishant Sharma achieves a major milestone in Test cricket
The tall-lanky fast bowler from Delhi, Ishant Sharma
achieved a major milestone in Test cricket during the 1st Test of
the 4th Day against England played at M Chidambaram, Chennai on
Monday.
During the 2nd innings, Ishant bowled a beauty to
get rid of Dan Lawrence LBW and grabbed his 300th wicket. It has
been a remarkable journey for the pacer who has served Indian cricket. By achieving
this feat, he became the sixth Indian bowler to grab 300 wickets in the longer
format. After not featuring in the historic Test series on Australian soil, Ishant
returned well and took 2 wickets giving away just 52 runs from 27 overs.
During the marathon innings of England 578, Ishant Sharma
took wickets of Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer in quick succession. He did not
give any runs stopping the run flow.
Ishant Sharma made his Test debut for Team India on 25th
May 2007 against Bangladesh. He took 1 wicket for 19 runs in the first innings
and gave away just 30 runs from 6 overs in the second innings. Ishant has been
a superb performer in every condition especially overseas pitches. During the
2008 Australian tour, he took the wicket of Ricky Pointing on the request of an Indian
captain at Perth.
During the 2014 tour of England, Ishant grabbed his
career-best figures of 7/74 at Lords, London to help India register a historic
win to take a 1-0 lead in the series. His performance was exceptional during
the 3 match Test series played in Sri Lanka in 2015.
During the 2018 tour of England, Ishant Sharma picked his
250th wicket in Test matches. He finished as the second leading
wicket-taker with 18 wickets. After that remarkable performance, Ishant proved
his worth taking 11 wickets in 3 matches before being ruled out the 4th
Test due to an injury.
Ishant improved his wrist position and taken many wickets in
overseas conditions. He along with Mohammed Shami, Bumrah has decimated the
opposition with top-quality bowling.
Currently playing his 98th Test match, Ishant
Sharma has taken 300 wickets ( 176 innings) with 11 five-wicket hauls and once
10 wicket haul. He registered his best figures of 7/74 during the 4th
innings against England at Lords during the 2014 Test series.
Anil Kumble ended his Test career with 619 wickets from 132
matches, Kapil Dev 434 from 131 matches, Harbhajan Singh 417 from 103 matches,
Ashwin 386 from 75 matches, Zaheer Khan 311 wickets from 92 matches.
